"Everything on sugar" - information day on Healthy Eating Day

Health department and consumer advice centre invite you to Monday, 10 March, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. - groups are requested to register in advance with immediate effect

The City of Chemnitz Health Department and the Consumer Advice Centre are hosting an information day on the subject of sugar and sweeteners on Monday, 10 March. The meeting point for those interested is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in room 434 of the health department at Am Rathaus 8. At stations in an interactive exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the chemistry of sugar types and other sweeteners and learn more about the technological function of sugar in various foods, the provision of energy and energy consumption during exercise. For example, you can find out whether soft drinks are sweetened with sugar or sweetener. The tasks of different sugars in food production are also illustrated.

Another important focus of the interactive exhibition, especially for the everyday use of sugar, is the labelling of types of sugar and other sweeteners on packaging. Among other things, the criteria behind the claims "sugar-free" or "no added sugar" are examined.

The contact person at the information day is Katrin Seyfert, nutritionist at the consumer advice centre.

Note: Teachers can also find out about the possibilities for using the "Sugar" information programme in the classroom. Groups wishing to attend the information day on 10 March are requested to book in advance - the contact person at the public health department is Anett Rast, call 0371 488-5390.
