Everyday mobility is being researched
TU Dresden also surveys Chemnitz households on "Mobility in cities - SrV"
At the start of the new school year, selected households in Chemnitz will once again be asked by TU Dresden to take part in a survey on everyday mobility. The study is aimed at all sections of the population. It is part of the "Mobility in Cities - SrV" research project, which has been running simultaneously in more than 500 German cities and municipalities since the first quarter of 2023. By mid-June, more than 87,000 people across Germany had already taken part. The survey will run until the first quarter of 2024, with over 270,000 people being surveyed in total.
Among other things, respondents are asked whether and with which means of transport they travel in everyday life and what distances they cover. As mobility requirements can vary greatly from person to person, the survey also asks, for example, about age, driving licence ownership and the accessibility of stops.
In addition to city-specific findings, the anonymised analysis also provides cross-city trends that need to be taken into account in transport planning. These include, for example, the mobility of certain groups of people such as senior citizens or children and the use of sharing services.
People who only rarely travel are also expressly called upon to participate, as the transport behaviour of the entire resident population is to be recorded. Only through the active participation of as many citizens as possible can representative data be obtained, which is essential for needs-based transport planning.
The addresses of the selected households were drawn at random from the population register. These households will receive an announcement letter with important information. Participation in the survey is voluntary. It can be done by telephone or online. The online questionnaire can be accessed at https://www.srv2023.de. A free telephone hotline (0800 8301830) and a web chat have been set up for queries.
TU Dresden has commissioned the Leipzig-based institute O.trend GmbH to conduct the survey. All data is recorded there, anonymised and passed on to TU Dresden for analysis.
The TU Dresden project, conceived as a "System of Representative Transport Surveys" (SrV), has been in existence since 1972, and the regular repetition of this survey every five years has provided insights into transport trends over a period of almost 50 years.
