Closing concert Werner Richter Competition
Venue: Concert hall - Chemnitz Municipal Music School, Gerichtsstraße 1
Admission: free of charge
The Werner Richter Competition - Saxon Accordion Competition - will be held for the 27th time this year on 30 September 2023 in Chemnitz, Werner Richter's home town, at the Chemnitz Municipal Music School. It will be held in the categories accordion solo, duo, ensemble and chamber music, as well as bandoneon solo and "open category". The competition is open to all non-professional musicians. The public is welcome to attend the competition.
Werner Richter was one of the founding teachers of the Chemnitz music school in 1950 and headed the accordion department for decades until his retirement. He was a pillar of music school life that many of our current teachers still remember well. He was held in high esteem by colleagues and pupils alike. He wrote suitable, inspired and often amusing works for his students and ensembles, whether beginners or advanced.
The final concert at 5 pm, at which the results of the competition will be announced, will be performed by the accordion duo Heidi and Uwe Steger. In addition to her duo programmes with Uwe Steger, Heidi Steger has performed as a theatre musician on many stages, including the Tribüne Berlin, the Leipzig Opera, the Musikalische Komödie Leipzig and the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau. She has also made a name for herself as a bandoneon soloist in "Misa Tango" by Luis Bacalov with the orchestra La Folia de Lille.
Uwe Steger has won numerous prizes at national and international competitions during his musical career. In addition to his work as a lecturer at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music in Leipzig, he has worked with artists such as Montserrat Caballé, Ute Lemper, Klaus Hoffmann, Maria Bill, Christina Lux, Manfred Maurenbrecher and Katharine Mehrling. His membership of formations and orchestras such as "Schnaftl Ufftschik", "Rachelina und die Maccheronies" and the "Leschenko Orchestra" reflect his musical versatility
