Concert Reflections
Concert on 1,700 years of Jewish life in Germany with Markus Kaufmann (piano), Tobias Bäz (cello) and the Dresden String Soloists

Emperor Constantine's edict of 11 December 321 for the city of Cologne proves that Jews and their culture had a firm place in the public life of European countries. In music in particular, we find very fruitful mutual influences, but also repeated anti-Semitic tendencies.
The concert will feature works by Prokofiev and Bruch, which were written under the influence of Jewish music; the Octet by Mendelssohn Bartholdy, whose compositions were banned from performance in Germany from 1933 onwards because of his Jewish origins, even though his family had converted to Christianity. Grieg experienced the strong anti-Semitic tendencies that flared up in France with the Dreyfus Affair when he took a public stance. Only his "Peasant Dances op. 72" were able to reconcile the French population.

The internationally award-winning composer, guitarist and director Helmut Oehring (*1961 in East Berlin), who was excluded from his studies as a conscientious objector, became a master student of Georg Katzer at the Akademie der Künste Berlin in 1990. His autobiography "Mit anderen Augen. Vom Kind gehörloser Eltern zum Komponisten" (btb/Randomhouse), which he produced as a radio play for SWR in 2015. He is a member of the Academies of Arts in Berlin and Saxony and the Academy of German Music Authors.
In 2015 he received the German Music Writers' Prize. In 2020/21 he is an Excellence Fellow of the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles. Current works include the dance music film BEETHOVEN? Der erlösende Fehler (release 9/2021) and the dance requiem EURYDIKE? vol. 2 (première 2/2022 in HELLERAU) . www.helmutoehring.de

Fête de la Musique

The Fête de la Musique(French for "[the] festival of music") is an event at which amateur and professional musicians, performers in the field of music, DJs etc. perform free of charge in public spaces (for example in public or publicly accessible squares, footpaths/paths, in parks/gardens/front gardens/courtyards, in front of or in cafés). publicly accessible squares, footpaths/paths, in parks/gardens/front gardens/courtyards, in front of or in cafés/bars/pubs/restaurants, museums/galleries, churches, kiosks/shops, etc.).
The Fête de la Musique takes place every year on 21 June, the beginning of summer, in more than 540 cities worldwide, including over 300 cities in Europe. More than 50 cities across Germany now take part in the festival. Chemnitz has been taking part since 2015.
The Municipal Music School will be represented by several bands.

With "Amadé in spe", the Sächsische Mozartgesellschaft e.V., The "Amadé in spe" concert series is a collaboration between the Saxon Mozart Society, the Chemnitz Municipal Music School and Villa Esche, in which highly talented and specially sponsored music students as well as winners of the "Jugend musiziert" competition present their skills and continue to inspire young and old alike.
