DA CAPO - Music for seniors

Ollipekka Määttä, teacher at the Municipal Music School, and his music students Tamira Reiter, Sarah and David Mauersberger and Max Henning are invited as guests. Ollipekka Kalervo Määttä was born in Kuusamo, Finland, and is one of the most talented Finnish guitarists of the younger generation. He received his first guitar lessons at the age of ten from Reino Vanhatalo at the Kuusamo Music School. Just one year later, he gave his first solo concert. In 2009 he was accepted to the Arts Academy in Turku and studied with Prof Timo Korhonen. In 2011, he began his studies at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Weimar with Prof Ricardo Gallén. He then taught guitar at the Music School of South in Western Finland, the Allegro Musikschule GmbH in Weimar and the Music School of the City of Erfurt before joining the Chemnitz Municipal Music School in 2019.

Casting for the children's opera "Brundibar"
Location: Concert hall - Chemnitz Municipal Music School, Gerichtsstr. 1, 09112 Chemnitz

On this afternoon, children and young people can audition for the joint project between Chemnitz Municipal Music School and Chemnitz Theatre in order to apply to sing in the choir or as a soloist. A favourite song must be prepared.
The children's opera "Brundibár" was composed by Hans Krása and premiered in Prague in 1942, and in 1943 in a version with orchestra in the Theresienstadt concentration camp.
Pepíček and Aninka, two poor siblings, want to get their sick mother the milk prescribed by the doctor, but without money they can't get any from the milkman. They observe the organ grinder Brundibár, who receives coins for his music, and decide to earn some money by singing. But nobody listens to them, and Brundibár, angry at the competition, even drives them out of the marketplace. As the two siblings lay down to sleep helplessly, a sparrow, a cat and a dog appear and offer their help to the children, who are too weak against Brundibár alone. The next morning, the three animals round up all the children from the neighbourhood. Together they chase Brundibár away from the market square. When the children sing Pepíček and Aninka's favourite song again, they collect enough money for the milk.
"Brundibár" will be performed at the Municipal Music School at the end of February 2022.
