Events organised by the Municipal Music School in January 2020

Wednesday, 8 January, 6 p.m.
Musicollage - Jumu Mix

Venue: Municipal Music School, Gerichtsstr. 1, Chamber Music Hall
Admission: free

Violins, flutes, guitars, oboes, clarinets, cellos and other instruments will be heard in a colourful musical round dance. Pupils play solo or in small groups. Let yourself be surprised by the young talents, all of whom will be taking part in the "Jugend musiziert" competition.

DA CAPO - music café in the power station

Songs and musical melodies with singer Claudia Müller-Kretschmer
Venue: Kraftwerk e.V., Kaßbergstr. 36, 09112 Chemnitz

Nancy Gibson chats with musical star Claudia Müller-Kretschmer. Claudia Müller-Kretschmer was born in Chemnitz and grew up in a musical family. She was already performing on stage as a child and completed a classical vocal training programme at the Leipzig University of Music. During her studies, she performed in several musical productions, including Grace in the German version of FAME, Maria in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR and Garbo in FALCO MEETS. She has appeared in several musical productions at German city theatres. In Chemnitz, she appeared in the successful production of AIDA as Nehebka and Cover
Amneris and in the Stadthalle Chemnitz as Nancy in OLIVER! She sang the role of Jeannie in the world premiere of the touring production of "FALCO -DAS MUSICAL" with guest performances in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In joint productions of Studio W.M. with the c3 event centres in Chemnitz, Claudia Müller-Kretschmer was heard as Ottilie in IM WEISSEN RÖßL and several in-house productions and galas. Since 2018, she has performed regularly with Sylvia Schramm-Heilfort and Jeffrey Goldberg in the "NACHTCAFE" at Chemnitz Opera House.

7. Chemnitz Lions New Year's Concert

Venue: Ev.-Luth. Kreuzkirche, Henriettenstraße 36, 09112 Chemnitz
Admission: 12 euros to 40 euros


Young artists and ensembles from the Chemnitz Municipal Music School and the Music School at Thomas-Mann-Platz perform classical works as well as modern vocal and instrumental pieces. The youth symphony orchestra will perform the first movement of Carl Friedrich Zelter's Concerto for Viola and Orchestra (soloist: Nomi Jantz), the waltz "Roses from the South" by Johann Strauss and the Can-Can by Jaques Offenbach. The "Young Chemnitz Choir" under the direction of Antje Schneider and Tina Pulst and the string band "Rock'n'Strings" (conductor: Henrik Lehmann) will also be performing. The concert is a charity event in aid of the promotion of young musical talent under the patronage of Mr Ferenc Csák, Head of the City of Chemnitz Cultural Department.

In this concert, young, highly talented pupils prepare for the "Jugend musiziert" competition in the "Piano solo" category and demonstrate their impressive skills on black and white keys. Classical and modern pieces will be performed.

Venue: Municipal Music School, Gerichtsstr. 1, Concert Hall

In this concert by the plucked instruments department, which includes guitar, mandolin and harp, the plucked instruments orchestra will play "Billie Jean" by M. Jackson and a guitar quartet will play "La Panthera rosa" by Mancini de Meij as the highlight of the event. Small and large soloists will also perform for the audience.

Regional competition "Jugend musiziert"
Friday, 31 January to Sunday, 2 February


The Chemnitz region includes the Kreismusikschule im Kulturellen Bildungsbetrieb Erzgebirgskreis, the Musikschule Mittelsachsen and the Städtische Musikschule Chemnitz.


As the organisers have planned, this will give the regional "Jugend musiziert" competition greater visibility and recognition far beyond the region. The Chemnitz regional competition will take place from 31 January to 2 February at the following venues: Piano solo, solo singing and wind ensemble at the Chemnitz Municipal Music School, accordion chamber music at the Flöha Music School, string ensembles at the Zschopau location and drum set (pop) at the Annaberg location of the KMS Erzgebirge.
