In the January edition, the Musikcafé welcomes long-time music school teacher Markus Funk. The teacher of recorder, flute and saxophone and director of the flute ensemble will talk to Nancy Gibson, director of the municipal music school, about his 24-year career. This will include episodes from his teaching life as well as insights into his preparations for the renowned "Jugend musiziert" competition, for which he has already successfully prepared numerous pupils. In addition, some of his students will also have their say, sharing their personal experiences and stories from the varied life of the music school.

At the 10th Chemnitz New Year's Concert, young artists and ensembles from the Municipal Music School and the Music School at Thomas-Mann-Platz will accompany you musically into the New Year with a charity concert. The proceeds from ticket sales and other donations will be used to support young talents who show talent and commitment to music, for example by purchasing musical instruments, sheet music or paying tuition fees.
Note: You will have the opportunity to warm up with a mulled wine in front of the Kreuzkirche from 4.30 pm.

Jugend musiziert - 63rd regional competition
Venue: Concert hall of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School, Gerichtsstraße 1

The "Jugend musiziert" Chemnitz competition is one of 173 regional competitions and will take place for the 63rd time from 30 January to 1 February in Chemnitz, Annaberg and Flöha.
It is the most traditional competition for the promotion of young musicians in Germany.
This year's focus is on the solo competition in the categories piano, harp, vocals, drum set (pop) and guitar (pop). In addition, the focus is also on ensembles: chamber music for string instruments, wind instruments and accordion, as well as mixed ensembles and ensembles for new music.

Jugend musiziert - Chemnitz - Schedule
"Jugend musiziert" is a measure of cultural youth education recognised by the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs and anchored in the Federal Children and Youth Plan and has been held annually since 1964. The three-stage competition, which first invites participants at regional level, then to the state competitions and finally to the national competition, has a stimulating function: it increases the popularity of musical education programmes, arouses curiosity and interest, and motivates children and young people to get involved with music, make music together and achieve particularly artistic achievements with diligence. Anyone and everyone can take part in "Jugend musiziert".
