Events organised by the Municipal Music School in April

Thursday, 3 April, 3 pm
Da Capo music café at Kraftwerk e.V. - "A matter of the heart: culture"
Venue: Kraftwerk e.V., Kaßbergstr. 36, 09112 Chemnitz
Admission: 7 euros (including coffee and cake)

Holm Krieger, director of Kraftwerk e.V., will be a guest in the April edition of the Musikcafé. In conversation with Nancy Gibson, Head of the Municipal Music School, Krieger, who is also a musician in the acoustic rock band "Solche", will talk about his life and his passion for culture. He studied German language and literature at Chemnitz University of Technology, was project manager at several cultural festivals and was actively involved in Arthur e. V. Krieger is also an author.


Friday to Sunday, 4 to 6 April
Jugend Musiziert - state competition
Venue: Concert hall - Chemnitz Municipal Music School, Gerichtsstraße 1
Admission: free of charge

The second round of the competition will take place this year in the cultural capital of Chemnitz. At the beginning of February, 48 of the 93 participants in the regional competition qualified for the state competition. To do so, they had to achieve at least 23 out of a possible 25 points. This year's categories include solo string instruments, solo accordion, solo percussion, pop vocals and vocal and instrumental ensembles.
On the second weekend of the state competition from 4 to 6 April, all the young musicians from the individual regions of Saxony will meet in Chemnitz to test their skills.
On Sunday, 6 April at 7.30 pm, the weekend will conclude with a festive prizewinners' concert in the concert hall of the Municipal Music School.
Particularly good players can qualify for the national competition in Wuppertal.

Sunday 13 April, 11 a.m.
"Ascending Bird" - Joint concert by the Clara Schumann Players from Düsseldorf and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Chemnitz Municipal School of Music
Venue: St Mark's Church
Admission: free of charge

As part of the Capital of Culture year, an exchange project is taking place between the two largest ensembles of the music schools in Düsseldorf and Chemnitz. The youth symphony orchestras of both cities will visit each other to exchange musical and cultural ideas and inspiration in joint rehearsals.
The visit of the Düsseldorf guests will culminate in the joint matinee concert "Ascending Bird" in Chemnitz. Works by Jean Sibelius, Ludwig van Beethoven and Colin Jacobsen, among others, will be performed.


Thursday, 17 April, 7 pm
"Come Together" concert project
Venue: Chemnitz City Hall, Great Hall
Admission: 12 euros

The power of making music together can be experienced in the "Come Together" concert.
In the run-up to the event, around 100 pupils from selected Chemnitz schools came together with the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra, the award-winning percussion duo "Double Drums", teachers from the Municipal Music School and the Industrial Museum and their teachers in intensive music workshops. The pupils tried their hand at building fantasy instruments and making music for the first time. In the joint concert, all the participants show off the results on the large stage of the Stadthalle. Music brings everyone together: People of all ages and skill levels - whether they are amateurs or professionals.
