Get to know the exhibition "Four Women. Four Lives" and its four main protagonists Christine Stephan-Brosch, Evelyn Krull, Gerdi Sippel and May Voigt. The four women are linked by their lives in the GDR and their work as photographers.
The exhibition is dedicated to works created up to the political change in 1989 and shows the different perspectives on social and political circumstances.

From Chemnitz. A piano
Public guided tour

It is not necessary to register to take part in the guided tour.
In this public tour, Dr Jürgen Nitsche will focus on Jewish life in Chemnitz at the beginning of the 20th century and tell the story of the Margulies family and their piano.
In the spring of 1939, 15-year-old Salomo Margulies travelled from Chemnitz to Berlin to organise his family's departure to Palestine. The ship passage was fully booked,
but he managed to buy plane tickets for everyone. The Margulies family's journey only took a few days. The family's belongings, including a beloved piano, travelled by container ship and reached their new home shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War. This piano accompanied Solomon for the rest of his life. It was only when he moved into a retirement home in 2016 that he parted with his instrument and bequeathed it to the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial.
Shlomo Margaliot died in September 2023 at the age of 100 in Kfar Saba, a small Israeli town near Tel Aviv.
From Chemnitz. A piano commemorates a Jewish family from Chemnitz. Salomo Margulies and his family are representative of the many fates of Jews from Chemnitz who were persecuted, dispossessed and murdered during the Nazi era. In its role as European Capital of Culture 2025, Chemnitz has an opportunity to remember this history.
The historian and journalist Dr Jürgen Nitsche researches and works on the history of Jews and the crimes of Nazi 'euthanasia' in Saxony.

Suitable for beginners and advanced photographers.

Be inspired by the works of the four photographers. During a tour of the exhibition followed by a photo walk in and around the art collections on Theaterplatz, you will learn the basics of analogue photography and take your own pictures with an analogue camera, which will then be developed in the photo lab. Afterwards, the participants will independently create an original print of their favourite photographed motif under professional guidance.

The harmonistic understanding of the Trinity in tradition sees the Father, Son and Spirit as a community of three loving persons. In this conception, however, God's innermost nature remains untouched by experiences of suffering and catastrophe. Can a loving God be meaningful in a world that is experienced as unjust and torn apart? On the one hand, Jesus dominantly proclaims a God of love in the Gospels.
Paul is also very concerned about a relationship with God that calls us to freedom. But on the other hand, the other side of God also remains present in the Bible: He himself plunges people into misery, allows them to be destroyed and leads them into temptation.
How is this insight reflected in the Christian trinity concept of the one God without simplifying? How can an understanding of God that is sensitive to suffering be conceived? It seems that Christ can also be rethought as the God who suffers with us.
Prof Dr Ottmar Fuchs teaches practical theology at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Tübingen.
The event is being organised in cooperation with the Catholic Academy of the Diocese of Dresden-Meißen and the Schloßbergmuseum Chemnitz.
