In 1985, Sinn und Form published Carlfriedrich Claus' Subjective Interim Remarks on Paul Klee, in 2011 his correspondence with Ernst and Karola Bloch, with a preface by Gerhard Wolf. And Peter Handke wrote in 2014 in the magazine "Claus formed a one-man expedition with what he called 'articulations', far back there in the GDR, as if in a perplexed, yet energetic zigzag in search of an emergence into multi-headed endeavours." The writer Ingo Schulze, born in Dresden in 1962 and a member of the Akademie der Künste, talks to Matthias Weichelt, editor-in-chief of Sinn und Form, about the artist Carlfriedrich Claus, the role of the arts in the GDR and the ongoing debates about their evaluation and significance.
The literary magazine Sinn und Form has been published by the Akademie der Künste since 1950. The fact that texts could appear here in GDR times that were not allowed to be printed elsewhere (by Volker Braun, Christa Wolf, Ulrich Plenzdorf, Peter Hacks, Christoph Hein, among others) established the legendary reputation of the contributions to literature.

Contrary to the official cultural scene in the GDR, a hotspot of the alternative art scene developed in Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz) at the beginning of the 1970s. With the Galerie Oben and the Clara Mosch artists' group (1977-1982), which also ran a producers' gallery, there were two institutions in the city that attracted art lovers from all over the country with their unconventional exhibition programme, actions and events. At the same time, these venues also served as platforms for artists who were not recognised as such by the state. Here they were given their first exhibition opportunities within the framework of the unofficial scene.
The exhibition uses numerous original documents, photos, posters, postcards and letters to tell the story of both galleries and bring them back to life. Changing monthly presentations introduce artists who were present in the gallery between 1973 and 1990, allowing visitors to experience a broad spectrum of artistic trends from this period. Furthermore, the so-called "Wednesday events" at Galerie Oben will be revived in the form of artist talks, lectures, readings and film screenings, inviting visitors to enter into dialogue with the artists of the time.

Let the day come to a relaxing end in a special place: Every third Friday at 4.45 pm, you can experience yoga exercises in the exhibition rooms at the Gunzenhauser Museum under professional guidance. If possible, please bring your own yoga mat; a limited number of mats are available.
