Take a tour of the exhibition Erich Heckel - Watercolours and Prints from the Jess Collection and learn about the most important works and in-depth content. The artist was a co-founder and director of the Brücke artists' group and was closely associated with Saxony and Chemnitz. With 4 watercolours and 40 prints from the years 1905 to 1966 from Jürgen Brinkmann's outstanding donation to the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, the collection will be significantly expanded. The exquisite collection will be presented together with Heckel's masterpieces from the museum's own holdings, thus emphasising the qualitative growth of the museum.

When Henry van de Velde was born in 1863, the style mix of historicism prevailed in Europe. Artists and industry had hardly any points of contact. When van de Velde died almost a century later
century later, the collaboration between art and industry was called "product design". In between, there were several generations of artists and designers who wanted to reform the form and function of everyday objects - and Henry van de Velde was among them. He was inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement, became an important representative of Art Nouveau, laid the foundations for the Werkbund and the Bauhaus, headed the La Cambre art academy in Brussels and recognised the importance of the Ulm School of Design.
In Chemnitz, Henry van de Velde created two villas, a tennis club and several interiors. Today, Villa Esche houses the Henry van de Velde Museum of the Chemnitz Art Collections. With over 130 works, it holds an important part of van de Velde's oeuvre. At the same time, the Textile and Decorative Arts Collection has been collecting contemporary European decorative arts and textiles since its foundation in 1898. Based on Henry van de Velde's role as artist, architect, teacher and author, the exhibition presents the network of visionaries, producers and dealers between 1880 and 1950, including William Morris, Richard Riemerschmid, Marianne Brandt, Otti Berger and Max Bill.

Play development with images, materials and objects - world premiere

A new theatre production for young people aged four and over is created from artistic and playful research. Arne van Dorsten and Anna Lehotská use materials, bodies and dance as well as tripods, colours and shapes to approach very different gestures and feelings, visual spaces and plays of colour. Together with the audience, they examine how faces are read, when and how a face is created or what happens when individual elements are removed again without further ado or dance out of line. And along the way, a lively story is created from shapes and arrangements! - The production, directed by Lara Kaiser and designed by Cornelius Reitmayr, will be performed on the puppet theatre stage in autumn and will also be shown on the road: at the Gunzenhauser Museum, in nurseries or primary schools.

Unwritten - Vom Erwachsenwerden
Artistic positions of Paula Modersohn - Becker, Gabriele Münter, Donna Volta Newmen, Theresa Rothe, Josefine Schulz, Johanna Seidel and Theresa Tuffner

The exciting but also challenging time of youth and the associated growing up are at the centre of the exhibition. The aim is to raise (personal) questions about identity, memory and the future, among other things. After all, this multifaceted and special period of life with its dreams, visions, illusions and turbulence is a special and formative time that still moves us all today. Against this background, the exhibited works aim to encourage us to look at the phase of growing up from new and different (artistic) angles and at the same time, if only for a brief moment, to allow a touch of youthful lightness to emerge and to ask the question of when adulthood has been reached.
