A commented reading with Germanist and art teacher Dr Ulrike Uhlig, who approaches the novel "The King David Report" from an unusual angle. The focus is not on the well-known representatives of power such as the kings Solomon and David or the historian Ethan, but on the strong female figures such as Ethan's wife Esther, his lover Lilith, the queen mother Bathsheba or Princess Michal. Biographical background information on the genesis of the novel rounds off the reading.
This event is a co-operation between the International Stefan Heym Society and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Stefan Heym's gripping war novel from 1944 was the only one of his novels to be published only in English during the author's lifetime. Now the book is available in German for the first time. It poses major moral and philosophical questions that are still relevant today: How far is it permissible to compromise with fascists if you want democracy? How much decision-making capacity do people have? In the end, is it chance that controls everything, fate?
