Debate day on cultural strategy
Venue: Event Centre of Sparkasse Chemnitz in Moritzhof, Bahnhofstraße 51
Admission: free
Two years of process - more than 150 stakeholders involved in the City of Culture Chemnitz have developed the key topics for the cultural strategy of the City of Chemnitz until 2030.
"Giving culture space" is the motto, as all projects are aimed at building on existing cultural infrastructures with their broad cultural offerings, as well as providing space for experimentation, exchange and self-realisation.
The basic aims of the cultural strategy are therefore already clear: Bringing culture "into the hearts" as a location factor to increase the quality of life, promoting networking, mediation and internationalisation, conveying a "desire for Chemnitz - a desire for culture in Chemnitz", having the courage to embrace the past, ensuring quality and aspiration, constantly fuelling curiosity about culture and the examination of one's own living environment.
Chemnitz citizens can get involved
And now the most important step, so to speak, is imminent: on 3 May from 5 pm, all Chemnitz residents are cordially invited to find out about the current status of the draft cultural strategy and to discuss it with the Lord Mayor, representatives of the administration, culture and politics. Important impulses can thus flow into the process of developing an urban cultural strategy.
The following topics will be presented in more detail at the event:
- Modernity in Chemnitz
- Give space! Creating conditions/funding models
- Industrial culture
- Cultural and creative industries as a driving force
- Cultural education
- Cultural mediation, marketing and international work
The Chemnitz theatre group ANASAGES will be presenting a performance. There will also be an information stand of the Capital of Culture Office Chemnitz.2025.
Citizens have the opportunity to send their comments and opinions before and after the event to the following address: kulturmanagement(at)stadt-chemnitz.de
Saturday, 5 May, from 6 pm
19th Chemnitz Museum Night
In the festive year 2018, which is dedicated to the city's 875th anniversary, the Chemnitz Museum Night will set its very own accents as a major joint project of the city's museums and art scene.
At a total of 29 locations, the participating museums, galleries and cultural institutions will be organising a museum night programme from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., offering a variety of exhibitions, guided tours, musical offerings, hands-on activities and much more.
There will be a press conference on the overall programme on 18 April. (Invitation - see press release 271, dated 16 April 2018)
In the anniversary year, "The special offer" will be dedicated specifically to the age group of children and young people as museum visitors of the present and future. On two different discovery tours, children with their families or young people with their friends can go in search of well-known personalities who have left their mark in Chemnitz or Karl-Marx-Stadt at 14 different locations.
The best way to search for traces is with the help of the discovery map. On the one hand, it serves as a compass for selecting locations. At the same time, it serves as a collection card for the answers to the questions about the "celebrities" you are looking for. Exciting activities and hands-on offers at various stations in the museums and institutions help in the search for solutions and provide young and old city explorers with interesting facts about the lives of the people they are looking for or their achievements.
Tickets: Museum Night Ticket for 8 euros, concessions 5 euros, also valid as a travel ticket
Admission is free for children and young people up to the age of 18.
Regulations on discounts and conditions of carriage will be announced when the programme is published.
