Between the Weimar Republic and National Socialism - three life stories from Chemnitz

The Chemnitz publisher and historian Jörn Richter presents three Chemnitz personalities during the dramatic transition from Weimar to the Nazi era. The short biographies are a small part of Chemnitz's city history, when people in Chemnitz were persecuted and marginalised.

Research material for novels, dedication copies from renowned fellow writers, Stefan Heym translated into the languages of the world: almost 20 years after his death, Inge Heym donated Stefan Heym's working library to the city of Chemnitz.
Since autumn 2020, it has been presented in the original furniture of his study as the Stefan and Inge Heym Working Library in the newly established Stefan Heym Forum at the TIETZ, where it is available for research. The guided tour includes explanations of the holdings, important exhibits and their history.

Performance evening for the spoken word workshop with Jessy James LaFleur

The two-day "ANGEPRANGERT! SPOKEN WORD" workshop held on 30 April and 1 May brought new talents to light. Together with Jessy James LaFleur, creative poets developed their first stand-up programme as part of LESELUST. You can marvel at this new approach to literature and performance at the TIETZ today. The up-and-coming poetry slammers are sure to welcome a large audience.
Jessy James LaFleur will be on stage herself to host the performance evening and accompany the participants' spoken word performances.

The girl is born in East Berlin. Julia is eight when her mother takes her and her sisters to the West, first to the Marienfelde emergency reception centre and then to Schleswig-Holstein. The thirteen-year-old can no longer stay in the chaotic farmhouse and moves out to West Berlin. In addition to social welfare, the schoolgirl earns money by cleaning, she meets her father and immediately loses him, graduates from high school and meets Stephan, the love of her life.

Jan Kraus works as a geriatric nurse in Berlin. He was born in Vimperk, formerly Winterberg, in the Bohemian Forest and has lived in Germany since 1986. The circumstances under which he left Czechoslovakia remain his secret. And his trauma. Kraus accompanies seriously ill people in the last days of their lives. One of them is Wenzel Winterberg. A Sudeten German, he was expelled from Czechoslovakia after the war. When Kraus meets him, he is lying paralysed in bed. It is Kraus' stories from his home in Vimperk that bring Winterberg back to life. But Winterberg wants more from Kraus, he wants to go on one last journey with him in search of his lost love - a journey that takes the two of them through the history of Central Europe. From Berlin to Sarajevo via Reichenberg, Prague, Vienna and Budapest. Because not only Kraus, but also Winterberg is hiding a secret.
