14th Chemnitz Reading Advent - a podcast series in four episodes
The long-standing series of events will be available as a podcast for the first time this year. With the Reading Advent, we offer people a moment to pause and reflect in the often hectic pre-Christmas period.Personalities from Chemnitz read texts on the topic of arrival and Advent and are interviewed by Pastor Stephan Tischendorf about their reading habits and current projects.
The podcast starts on Thursday, 2 December. Further episodes will be published on the following Thursdays at www.stadtbibliothek-chemnitz.de.

"Everyday life is curable!" - Jan Lipowski reads from his new book and presents cartoons by Uwe Krumbiegel

"Enemy of the people" - crime story reading with Frank Goldammer
Venue: Yorck Centre District Library, Scharnhorststraße 11

August 1961: Captain Max Heller of the Dresden criminal investigation department has been transferred to internal service by his new superior. An affront to Heller, who is about to retire. When one day he receives a parcel containing evidence from a long-solved murder case, he is alarmed. It soon becomes clear that the real perpetrator from back then is back and challenges Heller to a perfidious fight for life and death. A breathless hunt for the murderer begins, putting Heller's family in grave danger. The political situation in the GDR is also coming to a head. Almost unnoticed by the world, preparations are made for the construction of the Berlin Wall. On 10 August 1961, Karin and Max Heller have to make a dramatic decision: leave or stay.

Are you still looking for original packaging for a Christmas present? Or have you always wanted to make a poinsettia? Or have you wondered how to fold a Christmas tree?
We will discover this and much more in this course. We will immerse ourselves in the world of the art of paper folding. The beauty of it: paper, two hands and a little patience: hardly any other technique requires so few basic materials and is so versatile at the same time. Whether origami, kirigami or papercraft - a wide variety of motifs can be folded out of paper. How about an origami Father Christmas, a classic Christmas card or a paper tea light holder? A contemplative folding experience awaits you. And gingerbread.

Let's start the creative Advent season! Let's dive into the wonderful world of drawing together. Using the most popular figures and motifs from the Christmas season, we will show you various techniques, peppered with lots of tips and tricks. Whether reindeer, elves or the beautifully decorated Christmas tree, in this course you will learn/deepen how to express yourself artistically. Interested? Then get your pencils ready and go!

Saxon book case autumn 2021 - with Bettina Baltschev (book recommendations) and Rebecca Maria Salentin (reading)

In spring and autumn, the Saxon Literature Council recommends ten remarkable new publications by writers, poets and translators in and from Saxony. Each issue includes a real book case packed with all ten books. This case will be on display for two to four weeks in an owner-managed bookshop and/or a library, a literary museum or another place associated with reading and literature.
Following the book discussion by Bettina Baltschev, Managing Director of the Saxon Literature Council, the Leipzig writer Rebecca Maria Salentin will read from her book "Klub Drushba. On foot on the path of friendship from Eisenach to Budapest".

BibLab-C: Getting started with Blender

This course deals with the basics of modelling using Blender. We will start with topics such as the user interface and the functions of the individual workspaces.
Using Christmas examples, we will take a practical look at interesting topics such as modification functions, the texturing process and exporting models for 3D printing. We will also look at the differences between the two file formats .stl and .obj and find out what advantages these two file formats have for us.

"Flaming Peace" - Reading from the German first edition of Stefan Heym's early novel "Of Smiling Peace"

Stefan Heym's stirring war novel from 1944 was the only one of his novels to be published only in English during the author's lifetime. Now the book is available in German for the first time. It poses major moral and philosophical questions that are still relevant today: How far is it permissible to compromise with fascists if you want democracy? How much decision-making capacity do people have? In the end, is it chance that controls everything, fate?
An event organised by the International Stefan Heym Society to mark the 20th anniversary of the death of Stefan Heym, who died in Israel on 16 December 2001.
