Chemnitzer Kulturcafé / Outlook on the cultural year 2020

Mayor of Culture Ralph Burghart cordially invites the people of Chemnitz to an entertaining event with talk and music. One year on from the adoption of the City of Chemnitz's cultural strategy, there will be information on the status of work on the priorities and updates on Chemnitz's bid to become European Capital of Culture.
Cultural institutions and organisations will also present their highlights for 2020.

During a tour of the current exhibition, the donations and new acquisitions of the last five years will be presented in more detail. A special focus will be on the works of the artist Alexander Matthes (1951-1984) from Chemnitz, who died young and is almost forgotten today. This morning, we will be welcoming long-time companion Klaus-Dieter Trompke, head of the "Circle in the Tower" at VEB Spinnereimaschinenbau, and the artist's brother, Rüdiger Matthes, as discussion guests. Event accompanying the exhibition "Lackaffe und andere Duelle. News from the collection."

Art in the family: Tearing, cutting, pasting. Creating collages

Venue: New Saxon Gallery

Family afternoon in the exhibition "Lackaffe und andere Duelle. News from the collection." There are numerous ways to work creatively with paper. This afternoon is all about this extremely variable material and the collage technique. After looking at some of the collages in the current exhibition together, we want to realise the ideas from these in our own works. We will use different types of paper such as tissue, napkin or wrapping paper and off we go: tearing, cutting, pasting... Duration approx. 90 min. Please bring painting clothes!
