Seed and plant exchange at the Museum of Natural History: Seed diversity then and now

Meeting point: Museum of Natural History

Tip: On 1 April, admission to the Museum of Natural History and the State Seed Exchange is free for everyone.

Attention home, small and flower pot gardeners! On 1 April 2022, the Museum of Natural History is hosting a seed and plant exchange from 2 to 5 pm. Gardening enthusiasts are invited to bring seeds and plants to swap and preserve.
Anyone wishing to offer larger quantities can register for a swap table by calling 0371 488-4555 or e-mail: ehle(at)naturkunde-chemnitz.de.

At the end of the swap meet, museum director Prof. Rößler will give a talk on the geological development of seeds and fruits in his lecture "How nature came up with seeds". We look forward to an inspiring exchange about personal experiences in the garden and the preservation of pure, regional seeds!

Thursday, 14 April, 10 am to 4 pm

Easter in the Petrified Forest

Meeting point: Museum of Natural History

Just in time for Easter, little prehistoric dinosaurs have emerged from their eggs all over the museum. Why don't you pop in and see if you can spot them all? Whoever finds the 20 Easter eggs and can put the solution word together will receive a small Easter gift to take home.

The event is subsidised by the European Social Fund (ESF). Participation is free of charge*. Registration is not required.

*Due to the ESF guidelines, it is necessary to record the visitors' home address - but NOT their name.

Interactive exhibition: Museum experience

A forest that stretches back 291 million years into the history of the earth and a permanent exhibition that has been standing for 20 years - time to change something in our museum! We want to retell the stories about the life and death of our fossilised tree giants and bring much more from the collections to light.

Over the past few years, children and young people have been thinking about what our museum should offer in the future. Using games, animated films and audio contributions they developed themselves, they brought primordial dinosaurs, scorpions and giant dragonflies to life for the experience level of the new permanent exhibition. The resulting interactive stations were tested by young and old alike. We have implemented these change requests and now you can discover, play and dream again.

Visiting the interactive exhibition Erlebnisraum Museum is free of charge. A valid admission ticket is required for the tour of the permanent exhibition and the special exhibition "Highlights of Nature Photography".

Special exhibition: Expressive Painting - The World of Colour

Admission: Adults 4 euros / Concessions 2.50 euros / Children and young people up to 18 years free of charge

Euphoria, confidence, fear, happiness, loneliness - one's own feelings often follow a rollercoaster in life. As part of the "Expressive Painting - The World of Colour" project, young people from the TERRA NOVA CAMPUS discovery school express their feelings beyond language. Their inner world is reflected in spontaneous paintings created in the atmosphere of the Petrified Forest.

The Museum of Natural History is showing these special works in the existing permanent exhibition.
