Vernissage for the picture change

Corresponding to the period of the First World War from 1914 to 1918, the Schlossbergmuseum Chemnitz is showing another photograph from its collection of historical images of the war, accompanied by the ENT_Rüstet team.

An introduction to the Bible

"The Bible - a book like fire" is the title of a book by Pope Francis on the importance of the Bible today. On the occasion of the anniversary of the Reformation, we want to give an introduction to the Bible and its meaning for people today. You will learn basic things about the Bible and its origins from an ecumenical perspective: from a Protestant pastor and a Catholic professor of church history.

The course takes place in the Central Library, in the current Bible exhibition. In addition to historical and current editions of the Bible, there will be a media presentation on the subject of the Bible.

Organiser: Evangelisches Forum in cooperation with the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Tuesday, 19 September 2017, 6.30 pm - Of people and wall hook dwarves

Eske Bockelmann reads small, fine and never-before-heard stories by Ödön von Horvath.

Ödön von Horváth (1901-1938) is one of the most important German-language writers and dramatists of the 20th century. As a social and moral critic, he observed the "petit bourgeoisie" and explored their thoughts, feelings and actions. He became famous for his plays "Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald", "Glaube Liebe Hoffnung" and "Kasimir und Karoline", among others, as well as for his critical novels.

Eske Bockelmann studied classical philology and German studies. He worked as a dramaturge at the Mannheim National Theatre and in various positions at the universities of Munich, Würzburg and Marburg. He has been a lecturer in Latin and Ancient Greek at Chemnitz University of Technology since 1994. Most important book publication: "Im Takt des Geldes. On the genesis of modern thought." He has travelled the literary world primarily with the readings he has given together with Burkhard Müller since 1995.

Intercultural weeks

Wednesday, 20 September 2017, 11 a.m. - Living Library - Living books in the Chemnitz City Library

The "Living Library" works like a traditional library: readers borrow a medium, spend a certain amount of time with it and then return it. However, the media in the "Living Library" are not books, but people. On the occasion of the Intercultural Week, personalities with a migration background will be on hand as "living books" to talk about their lives and experiences in Chemnitz.

Frederick, the most poetic mouse in the world

Pantomime based on the picture book by Leo Lionni by the mobile theatre pohyb's und konsorten. While all the mice around Frederick are busily collecting supplies, Frederick likes to collect things in the sun. He says he collects words, colours and sunbeams - these are his supplies to paint the winter in the den colourful. The mice are surprised because Frederick speaks in riddles for them. But winter is soon approaching and Frederick's secret is revealed.

Reserved for Chemnitz special schools, grades one to three.

Kilian is a project of the Saxony State Association of the DBV e.V. together with the Saxon State Ministry of Culture.

Read aloud: On quiet soles... Stories to listen to

read aloud for everyone with keen ears

When you are invited to the event "Auf leisen Sohlen..." in the city library, you have to be very quiet and prick up your ears, because the reading mentors come to visit and read out exciting stories. They take both young and older listeners into colourful fantasy worlds with great pleasure. The literature-loving readers read the latest children's books, classics, "bestsellers" from their own childhood or even texts they have written themselves in the atmospheric reading tent in the children's world. Admission to the reading sessions is free.
