"Fit on the tablet" - workshop for senior citizens

Today, digital media are indispensable for communication and participation in society. Senior citizens can also benefit from the many possibilities of digital media. Haven't you always been interested in getting to grips with digital media and learning how to use digital devices? In this workshop, you can learn how to use tablet PCs under supervision. Chemnitz book premiere "WIR LEBEN WEITER" by Franz T. Cohn

From the distance of three quarters of a century, Franz Cohn - who was born in 1927 in Chemnitz, Saxony, the son of Margot and Fritz Cohn, a lawyer, doctor of law, lover of German classical literature and music, World War II officer and recipient of high military honours - describes his life and work as a young man.He describes how his father refused to accept the completely unfounded accusation in 1933 that he was not a bearer of German culture. Franz Cohn describes the consequences of his father's attitude from the child's perspective. Almost at the last minute, the parents Margot and Fritz took their children to safety in three different countries before they were able to leave for Norway themselves. Franz Cohn describes the flight of his siblings and parents. He himself was transported to Stockholm in Sweden. His uncle Gottfried Bermann-Fischer, the publisher of the German cultural publishing house S. Fischer, took him into his family in Sweden. Ultimately, Sweden and Stockholm became the new home of Eva and Franz Cohn, their three children and seven grown-up grandchildren. Franz proudly says: "WE CONTINUE TO LIVE!"
The book was published by Mironde-Verlag Niederfrohna in March 2018.

Large book market centred around the petrified forest. Chemnitz authors, literary associations, writing workshops, publishers, bookshops and second-hand bookshops present themselves. The winners of the "Chemnitz City Stories" competition will be honoured and read their stories. There will also be a varied literary programme, puppet shows, live music, games and hands-on activities for the whole family. Finally, the well-known reading stage authors André Herrmann (Lesebühne Schkeuditzer Kreuz, Team Totale Zerstörung, Comedy mit Karsten) and Ahne (Surfpoeten, Reformbühne Heim & Welt) will present their best and funniest texts.

Lecture / Lecture series Erich Auerbach's "Mimesis"
The representation of reality in European literature.

Erich Auerbach (1892-1957) was Professor of Romance Philology at the University of Marburg until 1935. After his dismissal by the National Socialists, he emigrated to the USA via Istanbul. His main work Mimesis, which has long since become a classic of modern literary studies since its first publication in 1946, was also written in exile. Using a series of text analyses ranging from Homer and the Bible to the Goncourt brothers and Virginia Woolf, Erich Auerbach describes the history of mimesis as the history of the different forms that the relationship between literature and reality has taken over the centuries. In this way, he also traces the development of realism in European and, in particular, French literature.

read aloud for anyone with keen ears
Our reading mentors take both young and older listeners into colourful fantasy worlds with great pleasure. They read the latest children's books, classics, "bestsellers" from their own childhood or even texts they have written themselves in the atmospheric reading tent in the children's world. Admission to the reading sessions is free.
