Christmas afternoon


We make Christmas decorations together and read aloud.

Christmas morning for the whole family

Children with their parents and grandparents are cordially invited to the library to do handicrafts accompanied by Christmas music, Advent stories and biscuits.

The Böll family in Ireland and the Irish Diary:
Lecture with René Böllon the occasionof Heinrich Böll's 100th birthday.

In 1958, Heinrich Böll bought a cottage in Dugort on Achill Island, where he lived and worked until the mid-1970s. The painter and artist René Böll, the son of the writer and Nobel Prize winner, will take you on a mental walk to the places that also appear in the "Irish Diary" and supplement this with personal memories of the Böll family's life on Achill Island.
This event is a cooperation between the educational organisation "weiterdenken" at the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre (course number: W1710111).

WITH LIGHT SHOT Exhibition/vernissage, information & entertainment

Corresponding to the period of the First World War from 1914 to 1918, the Schlossbergmuseum/Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz is showing a photo exhibition until November 2018 as part of the project 14-18 WAR WAS. Shared Memories project, the Schlossberg Museum/Kunstammlungen Chemnitz will be showing one photograph each month from its collection of historical images of the war.
The image exchange will be professionally accompanied by the ENT_RÜSTET.www.14-18warwas.de team.

What thoughts go through your Christmas tree's head when it's festively decorated in the parlour? Where does Felix stay for so long and what exactly was Jesus' birth like? The actress Annett Renneberg, known as Signorina Elettra and as the new doctor in the hit series "In aller Freundschaft", creates a cheerful and contemplative programme for Christmas.

Reading Advent - a series organised by the City Library together with the Evangelical Forum

Gaming in the Bibo "KIDS Edition"


We play various child-friendly console games on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. Interested parents receive information on computer games and USK (Entertainment Software Self-Regulation). For children aged 6 and over, registration not required

Research paper consultation hour for pupils, every Tuesday from 3 to 6 pm

We help with research in library catalogues and online databases and offer free self-help for effective research.
Registration is required, stating the subject of the research paper, by calling 0371 488-4222, by e-mail: facharbeit(at)stadtbibliothek-chemnitz.de or in person at the library.

Refugees welcome in the library! - every Tuesday from 1 to 3 pm

Learning mentors help with learning German and with homework for the DaZ and DaF courses (German as a second/German as a foreign language).

Reading aloud: On quiet soles... Stories to listen to
read aloud for everyone with keen ears

When you are invited to the event "Auf leisen Sohlen..." in the city library, you have to be very quiet and prick up your ears, because the reading mentors come to visit and read out exciting stories. They take both young and older listeners into colourful fantasy worlds with great pleasure. The literature-loving readers read the latest children's books, classics, "bestsellers" from their own childhood or even texts they have written themselves in the atmospheric reading tent in the children's world.

Admission to the reading sessions is free.
