Various institutions have once again chosen different plants of the year for the Capital of Culture year 2025. The guided tour will explain which tree, poisonous or medicinal plant, vegetable or perennial they are and what characterises them and what features they have.

The fascination of snakes: species, behaviour and protection of our native reptiles
Lecture by Stephanie Kuhnert

In this lecture, we will delve into the fascinating world of native snakes, look at their way of life and their protection. Find out why these often misunderstood animals are an important part of our ecosystem and learn to distinguish between the native species. Interactive elements during the talk will ensure that the topic is interesting for children aged 8 and over as well as adult nature lovers.

Seminar: Edible mushrooms and plants
Location: Chemnitz Botanical Garden, Leipziger Straße 147

During the seminar, we will look for and present the poisonous and edible mushrooms on an approximately 2-hour excursion. We will then briefly introduce the plants in the herb bed and their use in the kitchen.

Autumn festival
Location: Chemnitz Botanical Garden, Leipziger Straße 147
Admission: 6 euros per adult, 4 euros per child
The traditional autumn festival with pony rides, handicrafts, apple variety show and puppet theatre will once again take place on the grounds of the Botanical Garden. Food and drink will also be provided.

Exhibition opening: LEAFES with artist Anke Dilé Wissing
Location: Chemnitz Botanical Garden, Leipziger Straße 147, meeting point in front of the main building
Participation: free of charge, a donation is requested
Large-format physiotypes depicting plant structures in the form of leaves will be on display. Physiotypes are a very old printing technique developed by botanists for the precise depiction of plants and plant parts. The oldest manuscript with nature prints dates back to 1229 and contains illustrations of medicinal plants. A description of the printing process by Leonardo da Vinci from 1508 has been preserved.
