"De Natura Fossilia" - Fossils to touch, marvel at and recognise.
We leaf through Dr Georgius Agricola's field book and gain an insight into his research interests.
Location: Window into the history of the earth, Glockenstraße 16
Georgius Agricola lived from 24 March 1494 to 21 November 1555 and was a universal scholar in the fields of medicine, education, physics, chemistry, politics, history and philology. He left his mark on the geosciences with several works, of which "De Natura fossilia" is probably his most famous work. From 1546 to 1553, he held the office of mayor of Chemnitz four times. Agricola was one of the most influential personalities in our city and in the geosciences.

Geotope Day
Location: Window into the history of the earth, Glockenstraße 16, 09130 Chemnitz
Registration is not required. Participation is free of charge.
On Geotope Day, you can find out all about our excavations. Young researchers can dig for treasures themselves and look over the shoulders of the taxidermist and scientists as they work.
The event is subsidised by the European Social Fund (ESF).

Public Tuesday tour: The Petrified Forest of Chemnitz - Hidden Beauty

A precious treasure is hidden underground in Chemnitz, because this is where the Petrified Forest is buried. A volcanic eruption 291 million years ago preserved the flora and fauna of the Permian for us. We will explore the past of the Chemnitz Valley and be mesmerised by the beauty of petrified wood.
