Interactive exhibition: Museum experience
Location: TIETZ, Museum of Natural History Chemnitz, 1st floor
Admission: Visiting the interactive exhibition "Erlebnisraum Museum" is free of charge. A valid admission ticket is required for a tour of the permanent and special exhibition.
The freely accessible area between the Museum of Natural History and the Neue Sächsische Galerie offers many opportunities to approach the history of the earth in a playful way. Puzzles, books and games, as well as original fossils, invite visitors of all ages to explore and stimulate their creativity. The current focus is on the evolution of proboscideans - elephants, mammoths & co.

In our museum, we turn back time and playfully travel through the geological eras - who lived when and what happened in a time around 300 million years ago, right on our doorstep? Join us on a journey to crazy volcanoes, amorous scorpions and spiky sharks.
Finally, we'll make a volcano together and make it erupt!

The mystery of silicification decoded: How nature freezes life on a cellular scale.

Fossils, in which even cells are preserved in three dimensions, are among the most impressive archives of past life. Ever since microscopes first penetrated these micro-worlds almost 400 years ago, researchers have been asking themselves how such evidence of the earth's history is created. The answer to this question is not only of earthly importance: the search for life on other planets cannot ignore such fossils either. The lecture will provide an insight into a current research project that is using modern methods to shed light on the darkness and reveal a history spanning 200 million years.

#Sachsens_Obstkultur_entdecken - Fruit show with variety identification
Location: Museum of Natural History, TIETZ, 1st floor
Registration: no registration required
Admission: Admission to the exhibition and the family programmes is free of charge for children and young people up to the age of 18. Adults pay €4 for admission to the exhibition. The variety identification is only possible with a valid adult ticket.
From Friday, 24 October to Sunday, 26 October 2025, the Museum of Natural History at TIETZ Chemnitz will host the special exhibition #Sachsens_ Obstkultur_ entdecken for the fourth time. The exhibition is organised by the Saxony regional group of the Pomologen-Verein e. V. The exhibition is embedded in the International Pomologists' Meeting, which is taking place at the same time.
In addition to around 200 fruit samples on display on the first floor of the museum, the Saxon fruit varieties of the last ten years will also be presented here for the first time as precious wax models in a museum display case.
Visitors to the accompanying public exhibition can have the fruit they bring with them identified on site by pomologists Manfred Schrambke and Kai Geringswald. Children can also slip into the role of a pomologist and discover the documentation of fruit varieties according to an educational concept and express their wishes for a sustainable city in a family-friendly workshop.

Red, green or purple - that's how the rocks appear here on the excavation. Why is it like that? We'll find out together on a tour. Then you will make your own colour from the rocks in our excavation and rocks from other regions. Try out which imprints different leaves leave behind. Some may remind you of the fossils we found here.
Creative activity: print an autumnal decoration for your home.
