Interactive exhibition: Museum experience
Location: Museum of Natural History Chemnitz, Moritzstraße 20
Admission: Visiting the interactive exhibition: Erlebnisraum Museum is free of charge. A valid admission ticket is required for the tour of the permanent and special exhibition.
A forest that stretches back 291 million years into the history of the earth and a permanent exhibition that has been standing for 20 years. We retell the stories about the life and death of our fossilised tree giants and bring much more from the collections to light. Over the past few years, children and young people have been thinking about what the museum should offer in the future: Using games, animated films and audio contributions they developed themselves, they brought primordial dinosaurs, scorpions and giant dragonflies to life for the experience level of the new permanent exhibition. The resulting interactive stations were tested by young and old. These change requests were implemented and now it is once again time to discover, play and dream.

Fossils - witnesses of prehistoric times!

Whether fossilised wood, spherical sea urchins or gigantic centipedes - we playfully explore the traces of past life on earth. How are fossils formed? Why is there a fossilised forest in Chemnitz? Which animal is known as the "submarine of the seas"? As a creative activity, we will design a magnet with a primeval motif.

#Sachsens_Obstkultur_entdecken - fruit show with variety identification

Participation: only with a valid adult ticket for the museum
Tasty fruit has been grown in Saxony for hundreds of years. Which fruit treasures are hidden in your garden, in your backyard or which varieties grow in your meadow orchards or neighbouring tree avenues? From 27 to 29 October 2023, the extensive show with almost 150 apple varieties will provide an insight into Saxony's fruit culture. The start on Friday is at 4 pm. The opening hours for Saturday and Sunday are from 10 am to 6 pm.
Variety identification will take place directly in the exhibition under the guidance of experienced pomologist Manfred Schrambke. In this way, historical fruit varieties can be identified, preserved and propagated. To identify an apple variety on the basis of the fruit, three to five typical, well-coloured and undamaged fruits should be available. The stalk, core and seed must be intact.
The event format is to be continued until at least 2025, thus visualising the diversity of the historically grown fruit culture in a map.
