Insects have a hidden way of life. This guided tour introduces you to the animals in the Insectarium and explains their special features.

400,000 years of Homo sapiens, lecture by Dr Daniel Richter, Leipzig
Venue: Tietz, lecture theatre, 3rd floor
Admission: free
Anthropological and genetic data clearly point to Africa as the origin of modern humans (Homo sapiens). The oldest skeletons found to date come from East Africa, which is why the origin of our species was postulated to be around 200,000 years ago. Modern anthropological methods now identify finds from north-west Africa as modern humans, and new dating methods allow their age to be determined at around 300,000 years. This dramatic re-dating of our origins leads on the one hand to a coherent picture of archaeology and anthropology, and on the other hand a multi-regional origin of modern humans in Africa can no longer be ruled out.

Registrations for groups outside the above dates are welcome.
Together we will go on a journey to the Chemnitz Petrified Forest and take a look at the exhibition. How is a fossil actually formed, when did it once live and how did we discover it in the centre of Chemnitz? We will find answers to these questions together. At the end, you will design your own personalised wooden fossil picture.
