On the occasion of the special exhibition "Brilliant. Violet. Changeable. Amethyst from the heart of the Ore Mountains.", the Thomas family in Schlottwitz is organising a special treasure hunt. At this location, which is known worldwide for amethyst collectors, they offer guided tours with information on mining, geology and mineralogy followed by an amethyst hunt. If you are interested, you can also visit the in-house cutting shop and the sales and exhibition rooms.

We leaf through Dr Georgius Agricola's field book and gain an insight into his research interests. Georgius Agricola lived from 24 March 1494 to 21 November 1555 and was a universal scholar in the fields of medicine, education, physics, chemistry, politics, history and philology. He left his mark on the geosciences with several works, of which "De Natura fossilia" is probably his most famous work. From 1546 to 1553, he held the office of mayor of Chemnitz four times. Agricola was one of the most influential personalities in our city and in the geosciences.

SUMMER HOLIDAY PROGRAMME
Little explorers - we're looking for you!
During the summer holidays, the "Window into Earth History" at Glockenstraße 16 once again offers an insight into the world of geologists and taxidermists. The offers give an authentic insight into the working world of geologists and palaeontologists and provide a glimpse behind the scenes of the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz. Admission is free.

Monday, 2 July, 16 July, 30 July, 6 August - 1 p.m. each day
Fossil hunters
(for individuals)
As a fossil hunter, you will explore the excavation and find out what is behind the term fossils, how they are formed and how they can be found. At the end you can make a "fossil amulet".
Wednesday, 4 July, 18 July, 1 August, 8 August - 10 a.m. each day
Excavation helper
(for individuals)
As an excavation helper, you will learn how an excavation works. You will be active yourself and search for fossils. You will then have the chance to document your finds professionally and take them home with you.
Friday, 6 July, 20 July, 3 August, 10 August - 1 p.m. each day
Taxidermist
(for individuals)
You will become a geological taxidermist. You can try out equipment yourself, work on fossils and thus gain an insight into a sought-after professional field (from 6 years).

Jewellery workshop
(for individuals)
After visiting our preparation workshop, you can polish a piece of pebble wood yourself (from 12 years).

Registrations from groups outside of these dates are welcome.
The events are subsidised by the European Social Fund (ESF) and take place at the Fenster in die Erdgeschichte at Glockenstraße 16, 09130 Chemnitz.
Participation is free of charge.
