Anniversary year - 40 years of Insektarium!
1 January to 31 MarchEvent focus "Butterflies - misunderstood diversity"
With the event focus "Butterflies - misunderstood diversity" from January to March 2019, the Insectarium of the Museum für Naturkunde will open up a close-up view of butterflies - with detailed specimens, a silk moth farm, a butterfly preparation and a butterfly exhibition.butterfly preparation, guided tours through the butterfly collection in the museum's magazine as well as live and even free-flying tropical butterflies with changing diversity.

Most of the objects housed in the Museum für Naturkunde are insects. This guided tour through the entomological stacks will introduce you to some of our collection treasures and explain their special features.

On the trail of Schnappi and Co - a journey through time in the Chemnitz Petrified Forest
Public guided tour for children and young people at the Chemnitz Museum of Natural History

Together we will embark on a journey to the Chemnitz Petrified Forest and take a look at the exhibition. How is a fossil actually formed, when did it once live and how did we discover it in the centre of Chemnitz? We will find answers to these questions together. At the end, you will design your own personal fossil wood picture.

Precious treasures - treasures from Saxony
Whether fossilised wood, brilliant amethysts or dazzling agates - discover the beauty of nature with us. Experience the fascinating world of Saxon minerals and rocks on a guided tour. We cut and polish agates together.
Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
Cost: 30 euros tour fee, plus material costs: 2 to 4 euros and admission fee
