Special exhibition: Proboscidea
Location: Museum of Natural History Chemnitz, 1st floor, TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20
Admission: Visiting the special exhibition on proboscideans is free of charge. A valid admission ticket is required for the tour of the permanent and special exhibition.
The freely accessible area between the Museum of Natural History and the Neue Sächsische Galerie currently offers an insight into the evolution of proboscideans. Scientific volunteer Christopher Herrmann found an unexpected number of proboscidean fossils while working in the museum's collection magazine. This gave rise to the idea of thematising the evolution of elephants using objects from our collection. You can get up close and personal with elephants, mammoths and the like in the display cases.

With the climbing dwarf to the "centre of the earth"
(hands-on programme for individual visitors aged 6 and over and after-school groups)

The dark season is the best time for stories. Together we follow Jules Verne's heroes on their journey to the centre of the earth: a crazy team of explorers tries to get to the centre of the earth through a volcano. What a coincidence - a volcano in Chemnitz also invites you on a journey of discovery. This volcano erupted 291 million years ago and buried an entire forest with all its crawling and climbing inhabitants in its ashes. Get to know the climbing dwarf, the chemnitzion and their friends with us.
