A forest that stretches back 291 million years into the history of the earth and a permanent exhibition that has been standing for 20 years. We retell the stories about the life and death of our fossilised tree giants and bring much more from the collections to light. In recent years, children and young people have been thinking about what the museum should offer in the future: Using games, animated films and audio contributions they developed themselves, they brought primordial dinosaurs, scorpions and giant dragonflies to life for the experience level of the new permanent exhibition. The resulting interactive stations were tested by young and old. These change requests were implemented and now it is once again time to discover, play and dream.
1 to 31 December
Special exhibition: Highlights of nature photography 2023
Location: Museum of Natural History Chemnitz, Moritzstraße 20
Admission: Adults 4 euros, concessions 2.50 euros (children and young people up to the age of 18 free of charge)
The international competition "Highlights of Nature Photography" can now look back on a
25-year tradition. During this time, photographic technology has undergone revolutionary changes - from the triumph of digital photography to the use of drones, which open up completely new possibilities for photographers. At the same time, a new trend is recognisable among the almost 20,000 entries: the captured moment has been replaced by a well thought-out composition that focuses on the essentials. The winning image "The Sentry" by Mark Chen from the USA, which shows a lonely, defoliated tree in an endless sea of water and mist, is representative of this.
Motifs from the popular categories "Beauty of Plants", "Artists on Wings", "World of Mammals" and others ensure that the cheerful side of nature photography is not neglected either.
