Nancy Gibson chats with Carsten Knödler, theatre director at Chemnitz Theatre

Carsten Knödler first studied chemistry before training as an actor at the University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig. He worked as an actor and director at Chemnitz Theatre for eight years. From 2003, Carsten Knödler worked as a freelance director at theatres throughout Germany. From 2009 to 2013, he managed the theatre in Zittau as acting director. During this time, he co-founded the JOS initiative, a collaboration between the theatres in Liberec, Jelena Góra and Zittau.
Carsten Knödler has been acting director at Chemnitz Theatre since 2013. He can look back on over 50 productions. He favours American and Russian realists, classics, his own adaptations and musical productions.

Concert with the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra Leipzig

The Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra Leipzig is a guest at the Chemnitz Municipal Music School. The theme of this concert is "Shadows". Works for chamber orchestra by the following composers will be performed: Steffen Reinhold, Carsten Hennig, Friedbert Streller, Günter Neubert and Christian FP Kram.

Concert by the Dresden Composers' Class with the string quartet "Quatuor Bozzini"
Venue: Concert hall Städtische Musikschule Chemnitz, Gerichtsstr. 1
Admission: 5 Euro to 10 Euro
The string quartet "Quatuor Bozzini" from Montreal was a guest at the Dresden Composers' Class holiday course and will premiere the new string quartet works of the 8 to 18-year-olds. A moderated family concert with exciting musical stories from the pen of the youngest generation of composers. The overture to the concert will be performed by the StreichHölzer ensemble from the Chemnitz Municipal Music School under the direction of Andreas Winkler.

Musicollage wind instruments
Venue: Concert hall Städtische Musikschule Chemnitz, Gerichtsstr. 1,
Admission: free
Musicollage is a series of student concerts. In this "Musicollage", the wind department presents a wide variety of instruments from the flute to the bassoon, from the trumpet to the tuba.

Symposium "The joy of music"
Venue: Chemnitz Municipal Music School, Gerichtsstr. 1,
Admission: free
Visitors can expect a weekend full of exciting lectures, concerts by talented young people, a workshop and the opportunity to try out instruments for themselves.
All people from Chemnitz and the region, regardless of age and origin, should be informed and motivated to take advantage of the wide range of musical education programmes offered by public music schools and other institutions.

Young piano talents present themselves here. Classical and modern pieces will be played. When the nimble fingers of the young and old artists whiz across the keys, they conjure up a smile on the faces of the visitors.

Singing faculty concert

In this concert you will experience a colourful bouquet of melodies performed by the vocal department. You will hear young soloists working on their first arias as well as the choir groups of the department presenting their newly developed programme.
