Photography workshop with Natalie Bleyl (for the exhibition: Look at the people!)

This workshop will show you how to create your own selfies and portraits. We will not only learn the basics of portrait photography, but also various techniques for expressing your own personality and individuality. We will also try out together how the use of artificial intelligence can transform your portraits.
We will talk about the history behind self-portraits and the portraits in the current exhibition. How has this affected modern photography? And what meaning do facial expressions have when we photograph ourselves?
The workshop is for all of you, whether you have experience in photography or not. Here you can get creative and show your personality!
Bring your own: Please bring your own smartphone or camera if you have one (but this is not necessary)

Second industrialisation, feminism, world war. Awakening, suffering, hardship, death, disruption, the end of old orders. Familiar references are obsolete. The traditional on the rubbish heap of history. A desire for quick orientation. Quick, quicker, quickest. From grasping to grasping the worlds of life. In seeing. Modernity with its distortions, impositions and promises pushes the sense of sight. Photography and film technologically support these developments, which continue to differentiate and profile themselves into the 21st century ... right up to Insta_Mania ... etc. New references and parameters are needed for rapid sensory perception. Global standardisation. As in mechanical engineering: German industrial standard, DIN, since 1917. 1926 succinctly dissolved into This is standard. The outside also speaks about the inside? Form and content. Objective measuring instruments promise quick classifications, tempting us to draw [questionable] quick conclusions about living environments and people that have not lost their effectiveness to this day. And anyway, did people become different in the interwar period?

For the first time, the exhibition takes an in-depth look at the New Objectivity type portrait of the Weimar period (1918 to 1933) in a historical context. Thinking in terms of human types and themes such as physiognomy and characterology were omnipresent at the time. The exhibition draws a link to the present day and makes it clear that many stereotypes and clichés from back then still have an effect today and influence the way we view others.

Every picture tells a story. Inspired by the exhibition "Look at the people!", we will use the camera to capture observations and stories while reflecting on the stereotypes that influence our perception. Instagram and TikTok characterise the images of people we see every day and therefore also the boxes we like to put others in.
What does this mean for photography? And above all: what does it mean for us? In this workshop, we will take an in-depth look at this topic. Under the guidance of photographer Franziska Kurz, you will have the opportunity to contribute your own perspectives and ideas and explore new approaches to photography.
The workshop is for all of you, regardless of whether you already have experience in photography or not. Here you can get creative!
