Poetry reading with Thomas Böhme from "Puppenkino - Kalendergeschichten für 365 und einen Tag" and "Strandpatenschaft"

With "Strandpatenschaft", Leipzig-based writer Thomas Böhme presents a volume of poetry that echoes all the keys of his poetic language while also exploring new themes. The impending disappearance of what we commonly refer to as nature appears in many of his texts. The poems go beyond the decaying and seasonal and focus on the state of our world in general. Some texts seem like swansongs and open up apocalyptic scenarios. The mythical also makes an appearance.

BibLab-C: 3D printing - a brief introduction

"3D printing" - an advanced manufacturing process and a buzzword on everyone's lips.
3D printers are more than just simple CNC machines. Behind them lies an incredibly large cosmos: whether developments, experiments, repair culture, open source scene or maker movement.

The workshop will give all interested parties a brief overview of current technologies, which will be illustrated using many interesting examples and an active 3D printer.

An industrial city at the foot of a mountain full of ore, in the mid-1970s: after her parents separate, little Ulrike moves in with her father in Kaßbergen, a neighbourhood above the city's chimneys where the air is better and people tell each other stories of a glorious past behind closed doors. Ulrike soon begins to break out of the confines and meets Gonzo, a punk who introduces her to the world of artists and writers, the non-conformists. When he is arrested by the Stasi, Ulrike is left to her own devices ... Patricia Holland Moritz tells the story of a girl who has to explore the past of her family and her town in order to find her own way into the future.

In a diary-like flashback entitled "SUICIDE", Stefan Lange tells the story of a passionate love affair, a life between mania and depression.

Stefan Lange (54) lives in Germany and Switzerland. He is a business economist, author and is involved in suicide prevention. He gives lectures and readings on the subject. In his 61-part YouTube series "Komm, lieber Tod" (Come, dear death), he is unsparingly open about how suicide came about, what happened afterwards and how he found his way back to life. Peppers, onions or celery - if you cut up vegetables, you get very different shapes. We want to use these creatively and make them visible with textile paint. You will also print your own personalised fabric bag and take it home with you afterwards.

Please note: Participants will receive the material for printing the fabric bag from us. Please wear suitable clothing. No previous knowledge is necessary. Accompanying persons are also welcome.

A creative excursion into the world of the art of paper folding as a special kind of challenge. Paper, two hands and a little patience: hardly any other technique requires so few basic materials and is at the same time so versatile.

Whether origami, kirigami or papercraft - the uses range from folding boxes to technical applications. The history of paper folding, traditional "original models" such as folding boxes, stars and flowers are examined in detail.
There are also lots of useful tips and suggestions for other folding projects.

Throughout his life, the writer Stefan Heym intervened in social debates and took a stand. He was repeatedly subjected to political persecution for this - whether as a left-wing youth towards the end of the Weimar Republic, as an author in the USA with sympathies for socialism or later as an oppositional spirit in the GDR. He first hit the headlines 90 years ago, in September 1931, in his home town of Chemnitz. National Socialists and right-wing bourgeois circles publicly mobilised against the 18-year-old, using anti-Semitic stereotypes in the process. This was triggered by a poem he wrote against the deployment of German military advisors abroad.
A search for clues using original contemporary documents.

Stefan Heym: The new edition of his works

To mark the 20th anniversary of Stefan Heym's death on 16 December 2001, the publishing house C. Bertelsmann is publishing a large digital edition of the writer and publicist's works this year. Until October, 28 e-books will be published, covering the author's diverse oeuvre in its entirety: from historical and contemporary novels and poems, stories, speeches and essays to fairy tales and an early work that is being published in German for the first time - the novel "Flammender Frieden" (Flaming Peace) from 1944. Participants will present the edition in a moderated discussion and members of the acting ensemble of the Chemnitz Municipal Theatre will read from Heym's texts.

A joint event organised by Verlag C. Bertelsmann, the International Stefan Heym Society and the Chemnitz Municipal Theatres.

To be happy at last - many people wish for nothing more. But is happiness really so far away? Or is it more tangible at the edge of life's journey - and just waiting to be discovered?

Christof Jauernig pursued it for a long time in the hamster wheel of a management consultancy. He only realised what happiness really is and how close he had been to it all this time when he radically left it, reinvented himself and went on a tour of Germany with his story of awakening "Thoughts Lost - Unthinking". Along the way, he asked over 1,000 people in 60 cities about their valuable moments in life and compiled a potpourri of happiness ingredients. This event is a moving and diverse testimony to enchantingly simple, tangible and often free moments of happiness.

Noises surround us everywhere - at school, in traffic and even in the library, where it's always supposed to be quiet.
