Autobiographical writing with creative writing techniques

Every life story is worth telling. Looking back can illuminate the present and open up perspectives for the future. In this course, you will explore the traces of your origins and discover yourself in the process. Every life story also reflects contemporary and cultural history. The seminar encourages you to embark on a journey of discovery. You will learn to organise the wealth of your personal memories and recognise the common thread in your life. You will be familiarised with literary forms and creative writing methods to turn your memories into texts worth reading.

Whisky seminar: Distilleries: Dalmore
Location: TIETZ, course room 5.22
Fine sherried whiskies without smoke. This distillery still proudly refers to a special event in 1263 in connection with the then Scottish king, but the whisky itself is by no means "dusty" in any way, but very pleasing, smooth and complex. No wonder, as the most famous "nose" in the whisky world - Richard Paterson - is responsible for the quality.

Experience the beauty of Chemnitz through the changing seasons together with city guide Grit Linke. The tour, enriched with poems and stories, leads past the Janssen factory, the castle pond, through the "culinary quarter" to the "cradle of Chemnitz" - the Schloßberg.

Turkey today - how Erdogan secures his power

Turkey has been omnipresent in the media for a few years now: whether it's about the restriction of freedom, the military coup, corruption or the war against the Kurds, almost every day we receive new news about how Erdogan is expanding his power. Do we have to talk about autocracy yet? In this lecture, Turkey will be categorised as a regime. A political science model will be used to explain the methods the Turkish president is using to stabilise his regime and whether these are promising strategies.

Rhetoric and communication

Successful communication always takes place when a good connection can be established with the dialogue partner. There are various techniques for this that anyone can learn. Areas of application include conversations, negotiations, disputes, presentations and lectures. In all forms of dialogue, there are recurring processes that you should know in order to achieve your desired result. Get to know the techniques of the professionals: verbal and non-verbal communication, questioning techniques, body language, rhetoric for short presentations and dealing with difficult dialogue partners

The art of staying young - with Carlos Castaneda's Tensegrity®

Carlos Castaneda was an American ethnologist who met the Yaqui Indian Don Juan Matus, a shaman, during field research in 1960 and became his disciple. He wrote eleven books about his apprenticeship, which became worldwide bestsellers. In the last years of his life, he developed Tensegrity® - movements and breathing techniques - as a contemporary expression of a shamanistic tradition originating in ancient Mexico.

Braille course

Admission: free
The Frenchman Louis Braille developed the Braille system named after him in 1825. Braille, which is used all over the world today, enables blind people to read and write. Over the course of four evenings, you will learn more about the origins and basic principles of this script and its use in everyday life. You will learn how to read and write Braille. Both sighted and blind or visually impaired people can take part. Teaching material can be purchased during the course.
This course is a cooperation between the Blinden- und Sehbehindertenverband Sachsen e. V., Kreisorganisation Chemnitz/Stollberg and the Volkshochschule Chemnitz.

Talking to your own children about drugs and consumption is not necessarily easy, but it is worth it. Current studies show that parents have a great influence on their children's consumer behaviour. Whether it's smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol or using smartphones, parents are role models. Children also get a toolbox from their parents when it comes to conflicts, failures and unpleasant feelings.
At this event, you can get rid of all parental questions relating to addictive substances, dependency and abuse of psychoactive substances, including these: Can I recognise that my child is using certain substances? How does an addiction develop and where can I find help? The focus is on the question: What options do I have to strengthen my child before risky consumption becomes an issue?

Basics of improvisation for beginners

Improv theatre - fun guaranteed! Interested in western theatre? Or perhaps more classical theatre? Always had a bit of Shakespeare in you? Then you might be interested in theatre sports, the normal madness on stage without a net or a false bottom. Together we discover the joy of spontaneity and what is important for it. We play each other against the wall and learn that this is only possible together. The basics for good improv are tried out here

Japanese cuisine: Okonomiyaki - the "Japanese pizza"
Location: TIETZ, cookery studio 5.23.0
Okonomiyaki is extremely popular throughout Japan. It only has something to do with pizza in that the toppings can be chosen as desired: for example meat, fish, vegetables, noodles or cheese. The dough made from flour, egg and water is initially reminiscent of pancakes, were it not for the addition of sliced cabbage and a special fish stock. The okonomiyaki are also not baked in the oven, but traditionally fried on a hot plate. During the course, you will learn about some non-vegetarian and vegetarian variations and can be inspired to make your own creations.

New children's and youth literature - literary learning

Creative use of current children's and young adult books for literature enthusiasts, bookworms, teachers and educators. Literature plays a central role not only in German lessons at primary school, but also in kindergarten. The range of books on offer is large, the choice difficult. How can you make a themed selection? How can they be implemented didactically? Different works are presented, practical ideas for everyday life with children are given and possibilities for starting a reading session are tried out.
