Events at the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre in May 2019

Monday, 6 May, 7 to 9 p.m.
Vision series "What kind of society do we want to live in?"

Raúl Krauthausen: Passion instead of pity
Location: TIETZ, Foyer,
Admission: free

As an inclusion activist and founder of Sozialhelden, Raúl Krauthausen talks about how we treat people with disabilities in society. He sensitises us to social problems and encourages us to rethink social action. He is actively committed to ensuring that inclusion does not remain an empty phrase, but is anchored as a human right in everyday life and lived with passion. His lecture will focus on these questions: What does a society look like that truly integrates people with disabilities and values them equally to all other people? What barriers need to fall in order for participation to really succeed?

Registration required! Registration is only possible in person at the information desk of the adult education centre or via email to info(at)vhs-chemnitz.de.

Renate Aris from Chemnitz has a special life story to tell. She lived as a Jew under National Socialism, in the GDR and now in the Federal Republic of Germany. As a 10-year-old girl, she and her Jewish family escaped deportation to a concentration camp following the bombing of Dresden. Mrs Aris has lived in Karl-Marx-Stadt and Chemnitz for more than 50 years. She played a key role in the development and work of the Jewish community here, which grew from 12 members at the beginning to around 650 today. In 2016, she was honoured with the Saxon Order of Merit for her dedicated work. In 2012, Mrs Aris was allowed to sign the Golden Book of the City of Chemnitz.

On this evening, Renate Aris will talk about her eventful experiences, her commitment and her concerns in the face of current social developments. There will be time for questions and discussion after the talk.

Modern and ecologically mobile - car sharing in Chemnitz

Car sharing (car = car; to share = to share) focuses on sustainability: several people share one and the same car, thus saving costs (e.g. for insurance, repairs) and optimising the utilisation of the car. One of the largest car sharing providers in central Germany is now represented in Chemnitz with more than 20 stations and many different vehicle classes, including two electric cars. On this evening, the principle of car sharing will be presented. You will receive answers to all questions about the use, costs and advantages of this type of modern and sustainable mobility - also with reference to the specific offer in Chemnitz.
