The Chemnitz Integration Service introduces itself

The Chemnitz Specialist Integration Service advises people with disabilities on a wide range of support services with the aim of averting an impending disability, alleviating a disability and its consequences or preventing it from worsening. The assistance services are intended to ensure participation in working life and promote personal development in order to enable an independent and self-determined lifestyle. The event provides a general overview of the work of the Integration Specialist Service and the various types of assistance and access options.

Please note: The event cannot provide counselling on individual cases, but there will be an opportunity to ask questions.

Support associations can support the work in daycare centres and schools and provide additional funding for activities and projects, for example. They provide valuable assistance and their members can use their voluntary commitment to realise projects such as a climbing wall. We will show you what you need to set up a children's daycare or school support group, how to organise group life, retain members, find sponsors and much more.

For all elected parent representatives who want to do more than just organise the cake bazaar: How do you build a sustainable representation structure? How do networks work? What rights and obligations do you have as a parent representative? Whose interests do you represent - towards whom and how? Bring your specific problems with you - we'll talk about them. The Children's Rights Office Saxony will provide you with basic knowledge and discuss current problems in your organisation with you.

"Our children are our greatest treasure!" - Dispute mediators in action

We are often confronted in conversations or via the media with deficiencies in the upbringing of our children, inadequacies in school education and a growing propensity for violence among children. Disputes are a part of children's lives, but they must not lead to violence and insults. This is precisely why the "Senior Partners in School" association does important work in primary schools throughout Germany: by using senior volunteers (f/m generation 55+), children are empowered to resolve and end arguments with each other in a non-violent and respectful manner. In the lecture and the subsequent discussion, you will learn about the aims and methods of the organisation and the mediators (arbitrators) active in Chemnitz and gain an insight into this work. You may even become interested in joining the organisation. After all, who can resist the smiling eyes of a child?

Book presentation: "The three lives of Meir Schwartz"

Author and journalist Anja Schindler, who grew up in her parents' place of exile, tells the story of her father Meir Schwartz's extraordinary life: "In the course of his life, my father had four citizenships. He was stateless for over ten years. He grew up speaking four languages, then learnt two more. He was born in the Habsburg Empire, grew up in the Kingdom of Romania, was imprisoned in the Soviet Union, followed his wife to the GDR and became a citizen of the Federal Republic of Germany at the end of his life. The only continuity was and remained his Jewishness. Perhaps that was his true and only home."

Anja Schindler, born in Kazakhstan in 1949, came to East Berlin in 1956 and studied German language and literature and history in Leipzig. She has published numerous publications and exhibitions on German communists in Soviet exile, biographies of Jewish persecutees and survivors and Jewish regional history.

This event is part of the 28th Days of Jewish Culture Chemnitz. It is a co-operation between the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Inheritance and bequeathing - joint wills and compulsory portion law

A common form of will for married couples is a joint will. This type of will is often referred to as a Berlin will. A joint (joint) will has effects that the authors are often unaware of. For example, such a will can only be changed or cancelled under certain circumstances and in a certain form. A joint will may also trigger claims to a compulsory portion from legal heirs. Anyone wishing to organise their inheritance as a married couple should therefore be aware of the effects of their so-called last will and testament. The speaker will be lawyer Hans-Jürgen Rutsatz.

Family sponsors and foster parents wanted for Chemnitz

Do you enjoy working with children? Would you like to give away some time and share joy with a child? Can you imagine volunteering two hours a week for a child in Chemnitz? Then why not become a family sponsor!

There are many children in Chemnitz who, for various reasons, cannot grow up with their parents. Would you like to open your heart and home to such a child? Would you be willing to take in a child temporarily or for a longer period of time as a foster mum and/or foster dad? In this event, you will receive comprehensive basic information from us, e.g. about the situation of the children and the requirements that foster parents need. We will introduce you to family sponsorship and various forms of foster care. You will be informed about the application procedure of the Office for Youth and Family Affairs. We will also be happy to answer any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you!

Sweets have their place too - "sugar traps" and the best alternatives

Most children love sweets and snacks. And they don't have to give them up completely. A healthy diet and sweets are not mutually exclusive. But it is important for parents and children to know where sugar is hidden - not only in sweets, but also in supposedly sugar-free foods. The course provides interesting facts about sugar, gives recommendations on the appropriate amount of sugar for children and on natural alternatives. It also explains how to recognise sugar in the list of ingredients and where the classic "sugar traps" lurk.

Is sign language international? A clarification of myths about sign language and deafness

Around 80,000 deaf people live in Germany. In everyday life, deafness as a topic is not very present, many details are largely unknown. The lecture aims to clear up various myths surrounding sign language and deafness. Some questions and prejudices about the topic will be addressed - with the aim that participants will be able to deal with affected people a little more openly and understand their world better after the course.

For people who are approaching retirement, there are a number of questions to consider, for example Who can retire and when? Can I opt for a partial pension? Can I earn some extra money? What regulations apply? When do I have to start paying contributions to all branches of social insurance? Since 2017, there have been new supplementary income regulations during retirement, which will be presented in this lecture. There will be an opportunity to ask questions afterwards. The speaker is a counsellor at Deutsche Rentenversicherung.

Inclusion consultant Saxony on the topic: Being a parent with a disability

As a counselling centre for supplementary independent participation counselling (EUTB), Inklusionsberater Sachsen supports all people with disabilities as well as people at risk of disability and their relatives. This course is dedicated in particular to the topic of "Being a parent with a disability". Parents who have a disability encounter various difficulties in everyday family life. Until now, little attention has been paid to this special situation and challenge in Saxony. The aim of the event is to provide an overview of suitable services and counselling offers and to enable an exchange of experiences. The event could also lead to a sustainable form of support, e.g. as an interest group for Chemnitz and the surrounding area.

Film: Borderline - Living with extreme feelings

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a highly complex disorder. Those affected suffer from impulsivity, unstable interpersonal relationships, extreme moods and a very negative self-image. They also suffer from dissociative disorders, depression and, in some cases, extreme forms of self-harm. The film explores the question of what BPD means from the perspective of young people. Two young women and a young man who have been living with a borderline diagnosis for several years have their say in the film. The film does not aim to provide a comprehensive and representative description of BPD. Rather, the film is about reports of experiences that provide deep insights into the emotional lives of the three young people.
Film length: 90 min.

The dark side of human nature - deep psychological reflections on hatred, hostility and violence
Venue: TIETZ, event hall, 3rd floor

In our society, hatred, violence and hostile feelings towards others are commonplace in both private and social environments. In order to counter this, we need to think together on a social, political, economic and psychological level. Primarily based on the shadow concept of analytical psychology, the lecture shows a depth-psychological approach to understanding. Hatred and violence towards others are attributed, among other things, to deeply hidden fears of one's own weaknesses and faults. This has consequences for the development of ethics based on insights from depth psychology.

The speaker, Prof. Dr Ralf T. Vogel, is a psychologist and psychotherapist as well as a teaching therapist and supervisor at various psychotherapeutic training institutions. After working for many years at a psychiatric clinic, he worked as a senior psychologist at a clinic in Chemnitz until 2001. He currently works in his own practice and as an honorary professor for psychotherapy and psychoanalysis at the HfBK Dresden.
