Whisky seminar: The world of whisk(e)y

Scotch, bourbon, Irish, single malt, smoke, cask strength...
Whisky is a world of its own, a world of enjoyment. How can you make this world your own, how can you find your way around the different categories of whisk(e)y?
You will be introduced to six different examples, a classic "Scotch" and "Irish", Irish and Scottish single malt, a mild American bourbon and even a cask strength whisky. In addition, the difference between smoky and sherry-flavoured whiskies will become clear. Of course, you will also learn how whisky is made and how the production processes of the individual whisky categories differ.
The fee includes the cost of samples, garnishes and hand materials as well as a matching original whisky glass.

Outlook - communicate and organise professionally

Outlook is a PC application for managing and organising personal and company information. Get to know the various functions of Outlook for your daily work and practise using them.

Smart summer salads and barbecue side dishes

When it's hot outside, you don't want to spend long at the cooker. Food should be light and quick to prepare. What could be better than delicious salads? They are full of vitamins and can be easily varied with different dressings and other ingredients to create any flavour. Be inspired by the examples of salad preparation presented in the course and bring a breath of fresh air into your kitchen during the hot season.

Book presentation: "Karl Marx and the birth of modern society"

To mark the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx's birth, author Michael Heinrich will present the first volume of a new three-part biography of Marx on this evening. A closer look at Marx's life will dispel many a legend that has been uncritically circulated up to now.
The political scientist Dr Michael Heinrich teaches at universities and colleges in Vienna and Berlin.
This event is a co-operation between the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Syodou - Japanese calligraphy
Location: TIETZ, Adult Education Centre
Japanese calligraphy, "Shodou", is the art of "beautiful writing" with a writing brush. "Shodou was adopted from Chinese calligraphy around the 6th to 7th century. The characters were initially created for practical use. As the culture developed, so did the method of expressing characters aesthetically. Sho" means embellishment of the characters and "dou" means teaching. While the foundations of this art lie in the standard aesthetic theory of representation and thus in learning the characters, Japanese calligraphy can also embellish life in a practical way, enrich the mind with this hobby and express individual beauty. The learning process trains the personality and refines the feeling.

Cheering goals and looking the other way? Football World Cup without human rights?

Corruption, discrimination, displacement: for years, major sporting events have gone hand in hand with the erosion of human rights. This is now becoming clear once again at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Taxpayers' money totalling millions seeped away into dark coffers, workers from North Korea toiled on the construction sites and freedom of assembly was severely restricted during the 2017 Confederations Cup. Furthermore, migrants and homosexuals are massively disadvantaged.
How should democracies and football fans react to this? This event will place the situation in Russia in a wider context and ask: How can we strengthen civil society on the ground without claiming moral superiority?
This event is a co-operation between the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Intercultural couples - exhibition opening
Location: TIETZ, area in front of course room 4.07
Admission: free
TU Chemnitz students from the "Intercultural Communication" degree programme are working on a project about intercultural couples for the 875th anniversary of Chemnitz. The project focuses on the diversity of Chemnitz as a place of love and partnership. Because love has no borders and no gender.
In the project, a narrative picture book was developed together with couples. It is a photo album that depicts the everyday life of the couples and is linked to a short story about the couple - based on pictures of the couples and interviews. The photos are shown in the exhibition on the 4th floor of Tietz.
The exhibition also features posters that cover various topics of a relationship and thus show similarities and differences between the couples in different perspectives.
All interested Chemnitz residents are invited to the opening on 8 June at 5 pm.

Animal photography
Location: Chemnitz Zoo, main entrance, Nevoigtstraße 18
Take on the challenges of successful animal photography at Chemnitz Zoo. In the areas where we approach the animals without separating and disturbing fences, you can try out the effects of the different focal lengths. With the meerkats, it quickly becomes clear that this form of photography is not static, but that movement and changes of position are a matter of course for a successful picture. The correct approach, the determination of the format and the image section as well as attempts to experiment with long exposure times can be tried out using the different animals and animal enclosures. During the photography, the instructor will give suggestions regarding the choice of motif and realisation.
Please bring: your own camera (ideally DSLR), tripod if available and lens with long focal length
Prerequisites: Course "Photography with the digital camera" or "Basic course for photo amateurs analogue/digital" or comparable knowledge

Ways to be mindful of yourself
Location: TIETZ, course room 4.18
Even in ancient times, people recognised the importance of "taking care of yourself" and eventually elevated it to an art of living. Today, however, we often forget to look after ourselves. We focus too much on the expectations and judgements of others. Experience even shows that we don't treat anyone as badly as we treat ourselves. Dissatisfaction and exhaustion are often the result of this attitude. This course offers the opportunity to explore yourself and get to know the way you treat yourself better. Through various exercises, the course ultimately encourages you to be more compassionate and mindful of yourself.

875 years of Chemnitz: Chemnitz in watercolour
Meeting point: Rosenhof, entrance area Rosenhof 6
Together with Joachim Belz, you will spend half a day capturing Chemnitz in watercolour. Exciting motifs are sure to be found along the Chemnitz, at the foot of the Kaßberg. Joachim Belz will be at your disposal the whole time with his expertise.

The hackers are coming! - Live hacking

When it comes to working securely on a PC, tablet or smartphone, many questions remain unanswered or unclear. In addition to inadequate protection of the technology, people are often the biggest weak point. Good-naturedness, ignorance and curiosity are mercilessly exploited by criminal attackers. In this live hacking event, experts will use wit and humour to show how hackers operate, where typical targets of attack lie and how you can protect yourself against them with simple means. This event is being organised in cooperation with the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior.
Registration is recommended due to the limited number of participants.
