Participation: €9.50 per person, €5 reduced rate
Registration: by email at botanischergarten(at)stadt-chemnitz.de

This special guided tour of the Botanical Garden invites people with dementia and their carers to discover plants in a gentle and sensory way. The focus is on the sense of smell: together, we’ll smell aromatic herbs, fragrant flowers and leaves that can evoke memories and encourage conversation.
In a peaceful atmosphere, we’ll take the time to consciously engage with the plants – to smell them, feel them and talk about the personal memories that the scents and experiences of nature evoke.

The tour is designed to be accessible, with no time pressure and plenty of small sensory moments.
It offers an opportunity for shared positive experiences, socialising and relaxation in nature.

An event organised by the Friends of Chemnitz Botanical Garden Association (Förderverein Botanischer Garten Chemnitz e. V.)

Tuesday, 22 September, 4 pm
Experiencing nature with all the senses – a guided tour for people with dementia and their carers with Jeanette Quegwer and Reina Fink – Dementia Awareness Week
Venue: Chemnitz Botanical Garden, Leipziger Straße 147
Participation: free of charge, donations welcome,
Registration: by email to botanischergarten(at)stadt-chemnitz.de

A key part of this guided tour is the tactile trail, where different natural materials can be consciously experienced through the feet and hands – from soft sand to small stones or pieces of bark.
The garden’s animals are also part of the tour: guinea pigs, goats and rabbits can be observed and gently stroked. Feeling their fur and coming into direct contact with the animals creates special moments of closeness and joy.

The tour is designed to be accessible, with no time pressure and plenty of scope for personal impressions, memories and shared experiences in nature.
