The world from above - safe handling of multicopters

Multicopters, also known colloquially as "drones", are used in a variety of ways - in the emergency services, in the film industry and in industry. Drone flying has also become very popular as a leisure activity in recent years. There are a few things to bear in mind when using these complex flying systems. The adult education centre's workshop will therefore cover the legal requirements for controlling a multicopter as well as photo and video law and provide many practical tips on flying itself. The experienced instructor, himself a drone flight instructor for the fire brigade, explains how the devices work, talks about the necessary insurance and gives helpful tips on the maintenance of multicopters.

Everyday life at Radio Chemnitz - an online studio talk

Anyone who listens to Radio Chemnitz only knows one side of reality. Because what does it actually look like behind the scenes, i.e. in the broadcasting studio? What does the day-to-day work of editors and presenters look like? How is the news content selected and compiled? And what criteria and principles apply?
In this event, you will gain an insight and understanding of how a radio studio works and how programmes are created. Presenter Conny Hartmann will report live from the Radio Chemnitz studio and will be available for questions and discussions.
The event is part of the project "trau.schau.wem? - faktenfest und mediensicher" project and will take place online. You can register until 1 October 21, 2 p.m. and will then receive an access link by e-mail.

The honorary office in the judiciary: the legal guardian

Participation: free
This course will provide you with basic knowledge about legal guardianship. You will learn about the requirements for legal guardianship and who you can turn to for help and support. Voluntary guardianship can involve the care of a family member, but also the care of someone else who is in need of help. As voluntary care takes precedence over professional care, we are always on the lookout for citizens who are willing to take on this role. The Association for Legal Care has the task of informing these volunteers and supporting them in their work.
This measure is co-financed by tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.

Can my car talk to the traffic lights? Green light for the mobility of the future

The journey to work: congested roads, overloaded buses and trains, poorly developed cycle paths. The journey from A to B alone is often a source of frustration. But what does the future hold? Can data and artificial intelligence (AI) ensure a dynamically optimised traffic flow, "smart traffic" and "smart streets"? How responsible is the handling of personal mobility data? And can AI-supported mobility reduce costs and emissions? These questions will be explored in an online discussion with experts.

On the trail of the Stumbling Stones. A tour of the Kapellenberg

The crimes of the National Socialist regime also left terrible traces in Chemnitz. In memory of Jewish citizens who once lived in Chemnitz and other victims of Nazi tyranny, 259 Stolpersteine have now been laid in the city centre. To mark the 76th anniversary of the re-establishment of the Chemnitz Jewish community in autumn 1945, we invite you to take a tour along some of the Stolpersteine.
The focus will be on Chemnitz Jews who lived on Katharinenstrasse, Stollbergerstrasse, Parkstrasse and Schumannstrasse. We pause in dignified remembrance in front of their former homes.
The tour begins in Katharinenstraße in front of the former villa of the factory owner Erich Sachs (today house no. 10) and ends in front of the house at Schumannstraße 8.

Part 3: Cost traps on the Internet - What to watch out for?

The Internet is full of possibilities, but also harbours a few stumbling blocks. Older people in particular are often put off by the potential dangers. However, the lecture on cost traps and risks when buying online shows that this need not be the case. Because with knowledge and the right precautions, nothing stands in the way of an exciting voyage of discovery through the shopping possibilities of the World Wide Web.
The lecture addresses the following questions: What do I need to look out for when shopping online? How can I tell the difference between genuine shops and fraudulent offers? Which payment methods are secure? Can I use comparison and intermediary portals without hesitation?

The beautiful soul, evil and reason

What can and should we learn from the philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel today? What do concepts such as reason, reality, morality, recognition and the relationship between the "beautiful soul" and "evil consciousness" mean to Hegel? And why should those who are trying to fight for socialism learn from him? How does the dialectic of domination and servitude relate to fear, anxiety and labour?
On this evening, author Marlon Grohn will present Hegel's "Phenomenology of Spirit" in particular as a revolutionary vaccine that can be used to immunise oneself against the current "virus" of left-wing denial of reality.
Marlon Grohn has previously published the books "Communism for adults. Linkes Bewusstsein und die Wirklichkeit des Sozialismus" and "Hegel to go" (together with Dietmar Dath), and a book entitled "Hass von oben, Hass von unten. Class struggle on the internet" has been announced.

Unfortunately, many purchased insect hotels do not fulfil their promises. In this lecture, practical solutions will be shown on how to build bee hotels with the simplest means, in which bees actually feel comfortable and which they quickly move into. You will also learn all sorts of interesting facts about protecting wild bees in your own garden.

Camera Sensitive 2021 - Psychiatry in Film: Out of the Shadows

The film project focuses on mental illness: In 1977, social pedagogue Christa Liniger enthusiastically takes up her first job in the social services department of a rural psychiatric clinic. Her boyfriend Marc has already been working as an assistant doctor in this clinic for six months. Both want to bring their modern ideas for dealing with the mentally ill into the venerable walls, which are still run in the old spirit by the clinic director Professor Sennhauser. But it soon becomes clear that this endeavour will not be easy. Because Sennhauser, a charismatic patriarch, is used to ruling unchallenged (source: SRG Deutschschweiz).
The film will be followed by a panel discussion with experts, those affected, relatives and professional supporters from various fields of work.

On the trail of the artist Karl Schmidt-Rottluff in the Rottluff district
Meeting point: Rottluff Mill, Limbacher Straße 380
Participation: 6.60 euros
The former mill and flat in Rottluff, Limbacher Straße 380, will be the focus of this heritage excursion with former senior heritage conservationist Thomas Morgenstern. The young Karl Schmidt spent his childhood and youth in the building before going to Dresden to study architecture and founding the "Brücke" artists' association with Bleyl, Kirchner and Heckel. The current status of the interior renovation of the monument with preserved mill technology will be presented, as will the neighbouring cultural monuments on Limbacher Straße. There will also be a tour of the old village cemetery in Rottluff with the grave of the artist's parents.

Karl Otto - forgotten Chemnitz writer?

Karl Otto was a well-known Chemnitz writer and cultural politician. With the publication of the brochure "Das Lied von Sachsenburg", he campaigned for the commemoration of the early Sachsenburg concentration camp. During intensive research into his estate in the Chemnitz city archives, historian Jürgen Nitsche uncovered astonishing aspects of his biography. For example, Karl Otto was in correspondence with Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and hosted a reading with Stefan Heym in Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1965.
Like the history of the Sachsenburg concentration camp, Karl Otto's biography has been largely forgotten by the people of Chemnitz. A moderated discussion will take place on 18 October on the occasion of the anniversary of his death in order to remember Karl Otto as a multifaceted person. The diverse aspects of his biography, his commitment to coming to terms with the history of the Sachsenburg concentration camp and the possibilities of commemorating him will be presented and discussed. Dr Jürgen Nitsche (historian) and Anna Schüller (Geschichtswerkstatt Sachsenburg e. V.) will be among those taking part in the discussion.
The event is part of the annual programme of the Geschichtswerkstatt Sachsenburg e. V. and is sponsored by the Saxon Memorials Foundation. The Chemnitz Adult Education Centre is a cooperation partner.

Speaking for democracy - communication training to counter right-wing slogans and anti-democratic sentiments

Discrimination is part of everyday life. People of a different skin colour, sexual orientation or religion are repeatedly subjected to hostility, exclusion and condescending comments. But people who are politically active and campaign for democracy are also verbally attacked. Do we have to accept this? No!
In this communication training course, you will work together to develop simple methods for responding to and countering anti-democratic statements and right-wing slogans. You will learn about the mechanisms of prejudice and discrimination, look at your own attitude and discuss ways and means of dealing with inhuman statements and attitudes. You will learn how to represent your point of view confidently - e.g. to club members, colleagues or family members - and thus speak out in favour of democracy in your professional environment and your personal everyday life.
The course is aimed at volunteers in clubs and associations and anyone else who is interested. It is open to people who are themselves affected by hostility, and also to those who are not affected but do not want to stand by and do nothing.
The course is a cooperation between the Bürgerstiftung für Chemnitz, the Saxon State Centre for Political Education and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre. It is funded by the Local Action Plan of the City of Chemnitz.

The education of taste

At the latest when you realise how much social media has developed into paradises or hells of taste, in which "likes" are awarded or denied, it becomes clear that the history of taste is not over. In fact, we are guided by what we like or dislike, sometimes against reason. Close to the senses, far from the mind, taste is difficult to grasp. Since the 18th century, it has not only been the subject of philosophical debate.
In his online lecture, Prof Dr Ulrich Raulff explores the history of taste. The speaker was features editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and senior editor in the features section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. From 2004 to 2018, Raulff was Director of the German Literature Archive in Marbach. He has been President of the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations since October 2018.

Security at what price?

Security can be described as the certainty that everything is in perfect order. Increasingly, this certainty seems to be dwindling and many citizens feel unsafe in the city and in their living environment. However, statisticians speak of safe times.
The panel discussion will address the topic of safety in Chemnitz and the police law for Saxony. It will also focus on the use and analysis of data by security authorities and the general debate about security versus freedom, which is a controversial topic.
The panellists are:
- Marie Bröckling, author at netzpolitik.org and expert on the police law in the state parliaments of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony
- Miko Runkel, Mayor for Law, Security and Environmental Protection of the City of Chemnitz
- Albrecht Pallas, criminal investigator and member of the Saxon state parliament (SPD)

On the trail of the snapshot - everyday life of a photojournalist

What would a daily newspaper be without pictures? One thing is clear: every newspaper report or news item attracts more attention if a suitable picture emphasises the information and makes it clear. But what does the everyday life of a photojournalist actually look like?
How are the images created, how are they edited and then selected for presentation to the public? What influences the decision, what principles guide the photojournalist?
These and many other questions will be answered at the event by long-time Chemnitz photojournalist Harry Härtel. He will talk about his day-to-day work and will be available for discussion.

"Growing up behind bars." As a teenager in a GDR prison

The reading and discussion will focus on Falk Mrázek's experiences as a teenager in the GDR and his motives for leaving the country. "We were no longer allowed to live normally in the GDR, but we weren't allowed to leave either." This is how he describes his situation as a schoolboy whose parents applied to leave the country in the 1970s. He made a serious decision: knowing about the German-German prisoner release programme, he voluntarily handed himself over to the state authorities. In September 1978, he made his way to the Brandenburg Gate, where he demonstratively entered the border area. After being sentenced to several years' imprisonment, after various periods of detention and hard labour in the Bitterfeld prison, Falk Mrázek was sent to the Kaßberg prison in Chemnitz in the summer of 1979 at the age of 18 and was later released.
