Exhibition about playful learning in a reform school
The question of the right way to deal with pupils and the right teaching method is as old as school itself and is more topical today than ever. Just 100 years ago, obedience, diligence, order and cleanliness were the most important teaching objectives. Teachers were regarded as untouchable figures of respect in the classroom who used the rod or cane if pupils disobeyed. At the beginning of the 20th century, reform pedagogy gave rise to educational concepts that favoured child-oriented, practical and non-violent teaching methods.

Exhibition: 14-18 WAR WAS | Bildwandel with informative vernissage
Corresponding to the period of the First World War from 1 August 1914 to 11 November 1918, the Schlossberg Museum, in cooperation with the Department of Romance Cultural Studies at Chemnitz University of Technology, will be showing a photograph from its collection of historical images of the war events every month until November 2018 as part of the "14-18 WAR WAS" project.

3rd Fantasy Night in the Chemnitz City Library

Voland & Quist Literature Salon: Paul Bokowski, "Alone you are less together"
Enchantingly biting short stories from the life of a Polish immigrant child.
The author, reader and storyteller Paul Bokowski is the youngest member of the Berlin reading theatre "Brauseboys", a founding member of the literary event "Fuchs & Söhne" and a permanent editorial member of the satirical magazine "Salbader". His surprise hit "Hauptsache nichts mit Menschen" was published in 2012. The 'Woody Allen of Wedding' comes from a German-Polish family and is a passionate baking blogger in his second life.

The story of the cunning but poor cloth merchant Abu Hassan and his wife Sulaika, who together endeavour to get their hands on plenty of silver from the Sultan and his wife, the Sultana.

Read aloud: On quiet soles... stories to listen to
read aloud for everyone with keen ears
When you are invited to the event "Auf leisen Sohlen..." in the city library, you have to be very quiet and prick up your ears, because the reading mentors come to visit and read out exciting stories. They take both young and older listeners into colourful fantasy worlds with great pleasure. The literature-loving readers read the latest children's books, classics, "bestsellers" from their own childhood or even texts they have written themselves in the atmospheric reading tent in the children's world.
