Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of historical books from past centuries Chemnitz history and stories come to life with selected treasures from the cellar storeroom. Among other things, you can see and marvel at a medieval manuscript, the first Gutenberg prints, so-called incunabula, occasional writings from the former Chemnitz Latin School and sources relating to the founding of the city library in 1869.

Premiere of the Chemnitz theatre group Mirum. The entrepreneur Albrecht Greifenbrecht makes everyone around him realise that he doesn't care about them and that he has the power and the money. Whether it's his wife and daughter, who suffer from his despotism and avarice, or the accountant, who receives too little pay, or his partner, who lacks recognition. They all want to kill him and each one finds a way to put the plan into action. Independently of each other, they all try to make the body disappear, which causes a lot of confusion. It is only when suspicion falls on the only two innocent people that the "murderers" are plagued by their consciences and one by one they confess. Who ultimately committed the gruesome deed?
Recommended for ages 10 and up.

The award-winning environmentalist Ernst Paul Dörfler has written a moving book about the secret life of birds. Based on the latest scientific findings, it tells of love, friendship and loyalty - among birds. He takes a different perspective and provides unusual insights into their emotional world, into the caring and sustainable ways of life that nature has created. It offers impulses to smile and reflect and perhaps even to change one's own life towards more lightness. Nest Warmth is an enchanting book about birds, in which you can also recognise yourself as a human being. Ernst Paul Dörfler, born in 1950 in Kemberg near Wittenberg, holds a doctorate in ecochemistry and is a passionate bird lover. His book "Zurück zur Natur?" (1986) became a cult book of the East German environmental movement. He has been honoured with numerous awards, most recently the EURONATUR Prize of the European Natural Heritage Foundation together with Jonathan Franzen in 2010.

"Origin" is a book about the first coincidence in our biography: being born somewhere. And about everything that follows. Sasa Stanisic was born in 1978 in Visegrad, then Bosnia-Herzegovina, fled to Germany with his family in 1992 during the civil war, studied in Heidelberg and at the Leipzig Institute of Literature. His first novel "Wie der Soldat das Grammofon repariert" was published in 2006, followed by "Vor dem Fest" and the short story collection "Fallensteller".
In "Herkunft" (Luchterhand, 2019), he brings together stories and essays about leaving and arriving, about remembered and invented homelands, about many summers. The summer when his grandfather stepped on his grandmother's foot while dancing to such an extent that he was almost never born. The summer when he almost drowned. The summer in which Angela Merkel had the borders opened and which resembled the summer in which he himself fled across many borders. Told in a mischievously playful tone of cheerful melancholy that plays the whole keyboard of life.

On quiet soles... Stories to listen to
read aloud for anyone with keen ears
Our reading mentors take both young and older listeners into colourful fantasy worlds with great pleasure. They read the latest children's books, classics, "bestsellers" from their own childhood or even texts they have written themselves in the atmospheric reading tent in the children's world. Admission to the reading sessions is free.
