Lecture and discussion "Green wave - or what? Does the future lie in hydrogen?"

Venue: TIETZ, event hall
Admission: free

"Not now and not me, let the politicians do it first" is the response of many people when it comes to making real decisions to reduce climate change.
The technical solutions are already there. They just need to be utilised more consistently. There are very practical decisions to be made - beyond the sometimes radical debates. There are advantages and disadvantages in answering the question of which type of drive should be chosen for a new car.

The evening's speaker, Jörg Heidig, was one of the first Saxons to decide in favour of a hydrogen car.
decided in favour of a hydrogen car. He will explain how he came to his decision
what the pros and cons of hydrogen are and why battery-powered electric cars should not be the only option for the future. You can look forward to controversial discussions on an exciting topic for the future!

Jörg Heidig is an expert on organisational structures, teaches at various Saxon universities and writes specialist books.
This event is a cooperation between the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre and the Saxon State Centre for Political Education as part of the "Kontrovers vor Ort" series.

Last resort for the climate? Behind the scenes of the World Climate Summit?

Location: TIETZ, course room 4.07
Admission: free

The next Climate Change Conference (COP) will take place in the Spanish capital Madrid from 2 to 13 December 2019. The aim of the conference is to promote climate protection worldwide and offer poorer countries support in adapting to global warming and in the fight against climate change. At the end of 2015, the global community agreed in Paris to limit global warming to well below 2°C (preferably 1.5°C). All countries must take ambitious steps to achieve this.

However, there is a gap between the countries' climate targets and the measures actually required. This means that even if the signatory countries implement all the planned climate protection measures, this would not be enough to limit the temperature rise to 2°C - let alone 1.5°C. The goals of the 2015 Paris Climate Conference would therefore be missed.

What happens next? What are the goals of the climate conference in Madrid? At the
event, the speakers will report on the goals and current results of the climate conference in Madrid and provide information on the next steps.

The speakers of the evening are:

Dr Renate Treffeisen, environmental engineer and head of the "Climate Office for Polar Regions and Sea Level Rise" and climate scientist at the Alfred Wegener Institute and Dr Klaus Grosfeld, geophysicist and managing director of REKLIM - Helmholtz Association on Regional Climate Change.

The event is being organised in cooperation with the WWF. It will be broadcast as a livestream from another adult education centre in Germany. It is part of the "Smart Democracy" project of the German Adult Education Association.

And this is how you can take part:

You come to the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre and watch the live broadcast together with other participants. We will pass on your questions to the experts via an online platform. After the end of the broadcast, there will be an opportunity for further discussion on site. On request, we will also send you the event link so that you can follow the broadcast at home.
