Event to mark World Alzheimer's Day
Action day on 23 September at Chemnitz University of Technology
Coping with Alzheimer's and senile dementia on a day-to-day basis is a major challenge for sufferers and their relatives. The diagnosis of dementia brings major changes for affected families. With this year's event on the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day on the topic of "The challenge of dementia in everyday life", the DementiaNet_C(hemnitz) would once again like to make a contribution to informing those affected, relatives, carers, trainees, volunteers and other interested parties.caregivers, trainees, volunteers, neighbourhood helpers, everyday caregivers and all interested parties with presentations, advice at the stands on support services and to showcase new technologies and aids.
On Saturday, 23 September 2017, the DementiaNet_C invites you to a day of action at Chemnitz University of Technology (Weinholdbau), Reichenhainer Str. 70, 09126 Chemnitz. From 8.30 am to 2 pm, competent contact persons from various outpatient service providers, care services, consultants for technical and other aids, experts from outpatient and inpatient care services and, last but not least, the staff of the Department for Senior Citizens' and Disability Assistance, Local Care Authority of the Social Welfare Office, will be available for a personal and, if necessary, confidential discussion. Admission is free. Registration is not required. Relatives of people in need of care will be able to attend the event free of charge for the duration of the event with the help of a professional care service on site. The facility is barrier-free. Parking is available behind the building. On request, a sign language interpreter will accompany the event. At the event, modern technical options will be presented that can support the challenges of living with dementia and relieve the burden on relatives. Pioneering technologies such as ageing-in-place systems and the OPDEMIVA laboratory flat, a research project of Chemnitz University of Technology, will be available for viewing. Lectures will provide information on diagnostic and therapeutic options as well as care options for relatives of people with dementia.
A reading in the form of an experience report by Margot Unbescheid will be particularly exciting for family carers. Since her father fell ill with Alzheimer's dementia 18 years ago, she has supported her mother in coping with everyday life. At the time, she was looking for a book with a kind of guide on how to deal with relatives suffering from dementia and at some point wrote "The First Aid Book" herself. In it - just like in her lectures - she talks very openly, vividly and humorously about her sometimes absurd, sometimes sad, but also surprisingly wonderful life with her father who suffers from dementia.
