European Weeks Against Cancer 2014: Health department provides information with exhibitions and further education programme
Invitation for Tuesday, 7 October, 13:30, to the opening of a new exhibition of photography and painting at Am Rathaus 8 (1st floor)
For the 19th time, the City of Chemnitz Health Department is organising a wide range of information and advice events for the citizens of Chemnitz as part of the European Week Against Cancer 2014.
In cooperation with various partners - e.g. Tumorzentrum Chemnitz e.V., Sächsische Krebsgesellschaft e.V. and the Psychosocial Counselling Centre for Tumour Patients of the Health Department - various events will be offered on the topics of cancer prevention, early cancer detection and cancer aftercare as well as on questions of healthy living, creativity and leisure activities for citizens and those affected in Chemnitz.
Medical officer Dr Harald Uerlings: "We would like to draw particular attention to our further training event on ovarian cancer, to which the public health department has invited doctors, employees of tumour advice centres, hospital social services and other institutions that treat, advise and support tumour patients for Wednesday, 15 October at the Schloßbergmuseum. We are expecting around 120 participants and are delighted at the interest shown.".
Three exhibitions with works by those affected
The extensive programme of events during the European Weeks Against Cancer in Chemnitz also includes three exhibitions with artistic works by those affected:
The exhibition "From a new perspective" with watercolours and photography by Klaus Westland will be shown in the city's health department at Am Rathaus 8 from 7 October 2014 to 1 March 2015 and can be viewed during the opening hours of the building(www.chemnitz.de). The exhibition will be opened by Anke Protze, Deputy Head of the Health Department, on Tuesday, 7 October at 1:30 pm on the first floor of the Health Department - members of the public and representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.
Photography under the title "Discover Chemnitz" with works by members of the Kaune family will be shown from 24 October 2014 to 23 January 2015 in the rooms of IKK classic Chemnitz (Brückenstraße). "Variations" is the theme of the exhibition of paintings by Birgit Mehnert - the exhibition, which opened at the end of September, will be on display until 12 December 2014 in the rooms of the regional directorate.
