European Week of Sport

Chemnitz residents on the move from 23 to 30 September

Die Europäische Woche des Sports 2022

From Friday, 23 September to Friday, 30 September, Chemnitz is getting active. A whole host of free sports programmes will invite you to try them out and join in. With the ambassadors of the Chemnitz Floor Fighters, everyone is encouraged to visit specific activities or simply get a taste of club sports lessons. For the European Week of Sport, admission to the Floor Fighters' Bundesliga home game next Sunday, 25 September at 4 p.m. in the Richard Hartmann Hall will be free.

This will be followed by a floorball open play at the Red Tower, a cycle tour between Chemnitz and Leipzig and table football in the Rosenhof - the programme will not only entice visitors to get active themselves, but also to watch and be amazed. Children and adults can try out the sports on offer at the Chemnitz sports clubs, for example in football, judo, gymnastics or fencing. Those who prefer a more relaxed approach can calm down with progressive muscle relaxation.

Get moving on foot: The Frauenhilfe Chemnitz e. V., supported by the Equal Opportunities Officer of the City of Chemnitz, is organising the 13th Women's Run this year under the motto "Women run for women against violence against women and children". The City of Chemnitz Children and Youth Officer is organising an action walk for families in Küchwald. There will also be a family hike up the Pöhlberg, organised by the Children's and Family Centre of the Chemnitz Multigenerational House. Meanwhile, René Bzdok will take you on an active hike in the Zeisigwald forest to discover it in a new light.

Also taking part this year is the STAUNT Festival(www.staunt-festival.de), which complements the sports programme with activities relating to Chemnitz's cultural scene.

Throughout Europe, the European Commission wants to use the Sports Week to get as many people as possible moving and offer easy access to events in clubs. After all, an active society is a healthy, happy and inclusive society.
