European Week of Local Democracy in Chemnitz

With art event, exhibitions, films, workshop and intercultural cooking

In the week from Monday 13 to Sunday 19 October , Chemnitz associations and institutions will be focusing on expanding democratic participation at local level. With an art event, exhibition and films, workshop and cookery evening, citizens can exchange views on current issues - please also note the detailed information in the attached pdf file for publication.

With the opening of the exhibition "How do we want to live in the future?", to which the Reitbahnviertel district office invites you on Wednesday, 15 October at 10:30 a.m. in the TIETZ building, the pictures created as part of a painting campaign in cooperation with the Climate Alliance will be presented. Under the direction of artist Michael Müller, the residents of the residential centre for physically and severely disabled people of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund expressed their thoughts in pictures about what the world should look like in the future.

As a continuation of the "Human rights and democracy in Europe" series of events, the Odradek reading café is also offering a workshop"On the situation of refugees in Germany" on Wednesday, 15 October at 3 pm. On the following Friday (17 October, 5 p.m.), the topic will be explored in greater depth through intercultural cooking of dishes from the countries of origin of the Chemnitz refugees.

At the same time as the European Week of Local Democracy, the SCHLINGEL International Film Festival for children and young audiences will be taking place in Chemnitz at the CineStar in the Galerie Roter Turm. The festival programme also includes five films that deal with the topics of social criticism, integration, disability and inclusion, the relationship between generations and honour killings: "Krebsärsche", "Der junge Siyar", "Mädchenband", "Das Land der guten Kinder" and "Baby Balloon" - for information on the films and screening times, please refer to the attached pdf file or the Schlingel website www.ff-schlingel.de.

In advance of the European Week for Local Democracy, the Ecumenical Working Group "Shopping for the Future" and the Evangelical Lutheran Church District of Chemnitz invite you to the Ecumenical Practical Day: The offer is under the motto "Future shopping in Advent " - date is already on Saturday, 11 October from 10 to 16:30 in the Ev.-Luth. Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Gemeinde Chemnitz.

The art event "How do we want to live in the future?" will take place in the residential centre for physically disabled people of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund on Wednesday, 8 October from 10 am.
