European Week Against Cancer - the programme in Chemnitz
From 7 to 11 October, the public health department is offering compact information and advice on cancer in addition to its regular services Opening of the photo exhibition on 1 October at Am Rathaus 8
For the 18th time, the City of Chemnitz Health Department is organising a wide range of information and advice for citizens, those affected and their relatives to mark the annual European Week Against Cancer 2013. The Chemnitz Tumour Centre, the Saxon Cancer Society and the Psychosocial Counselling Centre for Tumour Patients at the Health Department are involved in organising the programme. The topics of the events are cancer prevention, early cancer detection and cancer aftercare as well as questions of a healthy lifestyle including creativity and leisure activities. The programme is available to take away free of charge at the information desk in the town hall at Markt 1 and in the health department at Am Rathaus 8.
Continuing education programme: The programme for the European Week Against Cancer, which takes place in Chemnitz from 7 to 11 October, once again includes a continuing education programme on the topic of "Cancer in children and adolescents" organised under the patronage of Mayor Philipp Rochold. Invitations are being sent out for Wednesday, 9 October, from 9 a.m., at the TIETZ building. The approximately 150 expected participants include doctors and staff from tumour advice centres, hospital social services and other institutions that treat, advise and support tumour patients. A number of high-calibre speakers have been recruited for the presentations on this topic (please also refer to the programme flyer for details). The event is jointly organised by the psychosocial advice centre for tumour patients of the city's health department, the Chemnitz Parents' Association for Children with Cancer, the Saxon Cancer Society and the Chemnitz Tumour Centre.
Exhibitions: The programme of events to mark the European Week Against Cancer in Chemnitz will once again include exhibitions this year: For example, the exhibition "Chemnitzer im Spiegel der Fotografie" (Chemnitz in the Mirror of Photography) with photographs by Karin, Martin and Gunar Kaune will open on Tuesday, 1 October at 1:30 p.m. in the public health department at Am Rathaus 8 and will be on display here until 24 January 2014. Medical officer Dr Liebhard Monzer, head of the public health department, will open the exhibition on the first floor of the building - representatives of the media are invited to attend.
The Kaune family from Chemnitz has been photographing their home town for many years. The photos taken by Karin Kaune, who died of cancer in 2003, her husband Martin (who will also be attending the opening) and their son Gunar focus in particular on the numerous parks, green spaces and paths on the outskirts of the city as well as architectural shots.
Further exhibitions will take place in the following institutions to mark the European Week Against Cancer in Chemnitz: "Mood in colour" is the motto of the exhibition of children's pictures initiated by the Chemnitz Parents' Association for Children with Cancer. The exhibition will be on display from 1 October to 29 November 2013 in the adult education centre area on the 5th floor of the TIETZ building.
Paintings by Birgit Mehnert will be presented in an exhibition from 7 October 2013 to 10 January 2014 in the Poliklinik GmbH at the Markthalle location. From 15 October 2013 to 10 January 2014, the Lila Villa Women's Centre will be showing an exhibition on the visual language of the ANASAGES THEATRE - opening on 15 October at 7:30 pm.
Paintings by Andrea Schröder-Patzer entitled "Life Colours" will be on display at Hospiz Chemnitz from 14 October 2013 to 3 January 2014 - please note that this exhibition is not open to the public.
Information and advice at the Health Department: The staff at the Psychosocial Counselling Centre for Tumour Patients are the point of contact for those affected and their relatives, and not just during the event week against cancer: Tuesday and Thursday, from 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 6pm, Room 408/409 of theHealth Office, Am Rathaus 8 as well as by telephone on 0371/ 488-5383 and 488-5385.
