European Week Against Cancer - the programme in Chemnitz
Health department organises 17th Cancer Week from 8 to 14 October - Opening on Tuesday, 2 October with new exhibition at Am Rathaus 8 Three exhibitions with works by those affected/ Permanent counselling and information service at the public health department

The 17th Cancer Week in Chemnitz has been prepared in cooperation with various partners - e.g. Tumorzentrum Chemnitz e. V., Sächsische Krebsgesellschaft e. V. and the Psychosocial Counselling Centre for Tumour Patients of the Health Department. Various events are offered on the topics of cancer prevention, early cancer detection and cancer aftercare as well as on questions of healthy living, creativity and leisure activities for citizens and those affected in Chemnitz.
Particularly noteworthy in the Cancer Week programme in Chemnitz is the further training event on "Oncological aftercare - palliative medicine and hospice work in Chemnitz" for employees of tumour advice centres, hospital social services and other institutions that treat, advise and support tumour patients. The event - a joint event of the Psychosocial Counselling Centre for Tumour Patients of the city's Health Department, the Saxon Cancer Society and the Tumour Centre Chemnitz - will take place on Wednesday, 10 October at 9 a.m. in the TIETZ building. Around 140 participants are expected to attend this year's event.
Three exhibitions with works by those affected
The extensive programme of events also includes three exhibitions with artistic works by those affected: "STREIFLICHTER" shows paintings by Birgit Mehnert - the exhibition, which has been on display since 24 September, can be seen until 21 January 2013 at Galerie-Cafe Lehmann, Markersdorfer Straße 112 in 09123 Chemnitz. The above-mentioned exhibition "WELTENTRÄUMER - SEELENFLIEGER" also marks the official opening of Cancer Week in Chemnitz - the exhibition will be on display at the Health Department in Am Rathaus 8 until 4 January 2013. "ZEICHEN SETZEN" is an exhibition of graphics and paintings by Stefan Findeisen, which will be shown in the rooms of the hospice in Chemnitz from 9 October 2012 to 4 January 2013; we ask for your understanding that this exhibition is not open to the public.
Permanent information and counselling service at the public health department
Information and advice on cancer is provided by the staff of the psychosocial counselling centre for tumour patients at the public health department. They are available in person and by telephone on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Health Department, Am Rathaus 8, Room 408/409 and on 0371/488-5383 and 0371/ 488-5385.

As a follow-up to the programme of this year's Cancer Week in Chemnitz, but thematically related to it, an event will be held on 25 October at 7.30 p.m. in Chemnitz. As a follow-up to this year's Cancer Week programme in Chemnitz, the Chemnitz Hospice and Palliative Care Service will be holding a public training event on 25 October at 7.30 p.m. under the motto "I see meaning in your life" - please register in advance by calling 0371/560 1511.
On 10 November, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Chemnitz Art Collections will host a joint event organised by the Chemnitz Health Department and the Friends of the Chemnitz Art Collections with other partners and associations. The invitation is under the motto "The greatest joys come from looking at beautiful works" - the event is not open to the public and participation is only possible with prior registration on 0371/488-5383/-5385.
