European Week Against Cancer
Exhibition opening at the public health department, 6 October, 3 p.m.
The number of cancer cases is increasing worldwide. The reasons for this are complex: in addition to genetic influences, individual health behaviour, environmental factors and living and working conditions also play a role. In Germany, around 500,000 people are newly diagnosed with cancer every year and around 220,000 die as a result of the disease. This makes cancer the second most common cause of death in Germany. 51% of all men and 43% of all women in Germany can expect to develop a malignant tumour in the course of their lives. In connection with the "European Week Against Cancer", the Chemnitz Health Department - as in previous years - is offering counselling on this topic:
Staff are available via the health department's cancer hotline on 0371 488 - 58 58
Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for questions from those affected and their relatives.
Patients and their relatives can also arrange personal counselling appointments from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on 0371 488 - 53 83 and - 53 85.
In Chemnitz, in addition to the Psychosocial Counselling Centre for Tumour Patients of the Health Department, there is also the Chemnitz Tumour Centre (Bürgerstraße 2, 0371 333 - 42709) and the Saxon Cancer Society with its counselling hotline 0375 - 281405) as contacts for people affected by cancer. They are all dedicated to the issues of cancer prevention and
and follow-up care as well as early detection.
The Chemnitz programme of the "European Week against Cancer" also includes four exhibitions with artistic works by those affected:
"My Chemnitz" is the title and subject of a show of paintings by the family of Karin, Martin and Dr Gunnar Kaune. It can currently be seen at Poliklinik GmbH Chemnitz, MVZ Markthalle 1.
"Back to the Start" is a pictorial and graphic exhibition by Birgit Mehnert, which will be presented from 1 October to the end of February 2016 in the rooms of IKK classic Chemnitz.
The exhibition "kill the ill" will be on display at the health department, Am Rathaus 8, from 6 October until 30 April next year. Dr Benita Martin, a practising doctor in Harthau, is considered the inventor of the 3D painting technique. She created the figurative mark ADA Dimensional Painting® in 2007. In 2012, the Federal German Patent Office granted her a patent for her 3D painting. This exhibition will be opened on the 1st floor of the Health Department on 6 October at 3 pm.
The young Berlin painter Paula Schmidt, who was affected by cancer, has been working on "Palingenesia monographsand texts on classical antiquity" during her illness. Palingenesia - synonymous in Greek with genesis, creation, birth and rebirth - inspired the painter to explore this theme. Her artistic works are on display under this title until
15 January 2016 at the Lila Villa women's centre on the Kaßberg.
