(European) Street Gallery for the Day of Neighbours
"Kulturhauptstraße 2.0" on the Sonnenberg from 28 May to 4 June
To mark European Neighbourhood Day, the Sonnenberg district management of Nachhall e. V. and the EU Office of the City of Chemnitz are jointly inviting people to take a walk on the Sonnenberg. The kick-off for "Kulturhauptstraße 2.0" will take place on Friday, 28 May 2021, from 2 pm to 6 pm.
A street gallery will be created along the "Kulturhauptstraße 2.0 - Sonnenberg" (on Sonnenstraße and Dresdner Straße). Various stakeholders will provide information about their projects in interactive areas on topics such as Europe, culture, sustainability and neighbourhood with very vividly designed construction fences.
The street gallery is intended to encourage neighbours to get involved. Ideas, views and opinions can be written down on posters. At a construction fence of the City of Chemnitz, there will be colourful insights into European neighbourhood festivals that have been celebrated on the Sonnenberg in the past. The EU-funded INTERLACE project for the renaturalisation of urban ecosystems and the NUMIC research project will also be presented. The aim of the CITY CYCLING campaign is to encourage many Chemnitz residents to collect kilometres by bike for the International Climate Alliance competition.
Chemnitz University of Technology added information on the RADerFAHREN project, which aims to motivate pupils to cycle to school.
A walk is worthwhile, as there are also small surprises to take away at the construction fences. The "Kulturhauptstraße 2.0" can be visited until 4 June 2021.

European festival of neighbours
The Festival of Neighbours was born in Paris in 1990. The idea was to strengthen the neighbourhood and community in the district and to combat isolation and anonymity. The European Neighbourhood Festival is now celebrated in 37 countries. In Germany, Neighbours' Day is being celebrated this year on 28 May. On this day (and beyond), the European idea of a shared identity and a "sense of togetherness" should be put into practice. Neighbours, regardless of their origin, age or religious affiliation, should come together. A simple gesture can often go a long way. The past few months have shown that local commitment and neighbourly gestures are very important. Everyone is called upon to make their neighbours happy with a small floral greeting or a letterbox surprise.
