European Neighbourhood Festival: A good tradition for Europe Week in Chemnitz - meeting place this time is the multi-generation house

Under the motto "Lifelong learning - learning together, from each other, about each other", the European Neighbourhood Festival (Logo) on Saturday, 10 May will focus on sporting activities for people with and without disabilities. Around the multi-generation house at Irkutsker Straße 15, archery organised by the "Miteinander statt Gegeneinander" association, wheelchair basketball by the Niners Chemnitz and a wheelchair dance workshop by the Saphir dance group will be inviting people to try out sporting activities. Barrier-free games from the Deutsches SPIELEmuseum can also be tested here. The youngest visitors will certainly get their money's worth with the bouncy castle, clown Pünktchen and children's flea market (organised by Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Chemnitz West eG). The nearby supermarket (EDEKA Görner) is also involved in organising the neighbourhood festival and welcomes visitors with a range of European dishes.
From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., neighbours can meet and get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere: On stage, after the opening by patron Horst Wehner, Vice President of the Saxon State Parliament, girls and boys from the KiTa Farbenfroh and dance groups from the House of Children from Chemnitz's twin town Ústí nad Labem will create a cheerful atmosphere with dance and aerobics. Songwriters Fanny Bui and Anja Voigt as well as the Chemnitz high-rise band will provide musical accompaniment to the programme. For those who prefer a cosier atmosphere, the Chill Out Lounge with DJ, table football and cooking performance by Spinnerei e. V. is just the thing.
At the same time, the tram museum at Zwickauer Straße 164 opens its doors: here, guests can ride the narrow-gauge railway or take part in a guided tour of the special exhibition. A special shuttle service has been set up so that the people of Sonnenberg - who have always hosted the European Neighbourhood Festival in Chemnitz in previous years - can visit the European Neighbourhood Festival as usual this year. An Ikarus bus will travel at regular intervals to the tram museum, Kappel, Ikarus, Sonnenberg and the central bus stop.
The European Neighbourhood Festival 2014 programme will kick off on Saturday (10 May) in Chemnitz the day before (Friday, 9 May). May) is the European exchange of experiences in the Sonnenberg community centre: Pia Sachs and Katja Kluge from the EU Office of the City of Chemnitz will welcome guests from Ústí nad Labem, who will share knowledge and good practice examples during presentations and discussions with Petra Liebetrau, Disability Officer of the City of Chemnitz, as well as experts from the City Sports Association and other organisations. The aim is to establish lasting contacts and initiate joint projects.
